The proper darts - BDO
Discussion
The worst thing about it (and there are a lot of things) is Tony Green who seems to be in complete denial at how poor it is and seems thoroughly determined to convince the viewer that the BDO really is the pinnacle of darts.
He's like Comical Ali to me. I imagine him stood in front of a camera with Taylor and van Gerwen playing behind him and denying the existence of them.

Big problem is that nearly all of the BDO players are part-time and therefore limited time to practice. There is no real money for winning titles so therefore you need to have a second job to make a living. Catch 22 situation.
If you make the jump to the PDC and practice then you can make a few quid.

The cost to get to the diferent comps is fairly high my mate still worked when he was in BDO and still is now he's playing PDC. If you make the jump to the PDC and practice then you can make a few quid.

There was a piece on BBC Sport about Daryl Fitton saying its hard to attend the BDO circuit without sponsorship when you have to travel the world and play in competions to even qualify for the worlds. You can certainly understand why that pretty much everyone who has won the BDO world title jumps straight away into the PDC.

Does your friend earn a decent wage in the PDC? I remember looking at some of the earnings and i think anyone in the top 50 could earn ok money.

I never really ask him about the cash and when i have just in passing he says he does ok. I know he won 10k at one event but i only no that because it was in the local paper. This is the prize money won over 2 years for the PDC guys. For anyone outside the top 20 it really isn't a lot.
