I got my little cricket bat with Ashes 2005 out of the cupboard. Hopefully it will brink luck. Not that I believe in luck. But it brings back good memories.

Beautiful day to win the toss and bat. 300-3 would do nicely. Step to it, Chef.

What an awesome day to start an Ashes series. I'd actually like us to lose the toss, Crims bat, and back in the hutch by tea for 167.

cool

As will I, but I intend to make it work!

Toss won. In to bat. Good call from the chef.

Is it a good call? Common sense says bat first - but overcast today - bowl first maybe? - pressure on the Aussies with their fragile line up? three/four wkts in that first session???

I remember that first day at Lords in 2005 - we got into them from the word go and they knew we were a different team.

Time will tell - wish I could fast foward to 1pm now!

Anyone else quietly humming Jerusalem to themselves this morning?
Haha - did exactly that yesterday! Takes me back to our batsmen on the steps at the Oval on the last day in 2005 in that last Test ... crowd giving it large - tears rolling down my face. That series was coming down to that morning session ... would they bowl us out and thenknock 'em off to win?

Not a chance as it happened thanks to KP.

Cloud will be diminishing throughout the day though, even if there were early wickets, the middle order would have opportunity to dig in.

This 'best bowling attack in the world' had a bit of trouble slicing through Worcestershire line up last week

[/things I would really regret saying].

To the "Put 'em in" crowd, all one can say is Nasser...Gabba...2002.
Any Aussies may wish to contemplate Punter...Edgbaston...2005.

Never again!

Nah. It has to be seriously grassy/inclement before you win and opt to bowl. You don't generally want to be batting last.

Away on hols with patchy access to Internet.

Good luck chaps.

Surprised they didn't pick Bird though.

Not convinced about Siddle, but it is what it is.

Thank Christ your lot is batting first.

Yes, remember Nasser's well (sadly) ...

Not saying we should have bowled - just throwing it out there ...

Go to it England.

Also best wishes to the Aussies, and good luck. Hope you get slaughtered, and not in the hotel bar. OK you can do that too.

To make best use of Swann we need Aussie batting fourth dig. Saturday could be interesting as is looks like being very humid, cloudy.... ie perfect swinging conditions.
