Think of a football team, where one player doesn't want to pass, all he wants to do is dribble around the opposition and score fantastic goals. This player does this in 1 out of 100 attempts, and when he does he is called the best player ever...blah blah. In the 99 times he doesn't score, he loses the ball and the opposition go onto score and win the game.
In this example though, it would be like having Beckham playing in the Romford girls under 12s team.

He was the only Eng player that was really trying to take the fight to the Aussies in every match (Stokes was another when he played).

But anyway, what's done is done.

The important match is this afternoon. Scorchers vs Hurricanes at the WACA.

Written by somebody without a cricket career cut short by arbitrary selection nonsense.

His analogies between kings in exile and cricket is nonsense and takes no account of the fleeting window of opportunity for professional sportsmen. You have 15 years and then it's over.

Rebuilding a team with new blood is fine if the guy is 38.

He's 33 and scored 8800 runs in 104 tests.

Having not gone back through the thread I would say that the ECB have painted themselves into a corner over KP. He is clearly being singled out over the Ashes, which is completely unfair. The team did not compete, not just KP. Cook was equally as reckless, and as Aussies have always done they will target the captain.

Anderson, Bell, Prior, Swann, the list of poor performances by the established stars was unbelievable.

If they wanted to try something else then they should have said to KP 'Go and fine yourself a county and make us pick you' . If he does nothing then no one will clamber for his return. If the new coach comes in and the team does not perform as KP smashes stupid runs then the coach looks stupid.

Remember Steve McClaren over retiring David Beckham? Looked and idiot when he brought him back.

KP is Hollywood, and can genuinely intimidate the opposition. He may be an awkward character but that is where you need a good man manager. Sacking him now just says they have no confidence in whoever they will bring in to coach the team

Seems the ECB will release a statement today to 'clarify' why KP was sacked. Points to a lack of trust , but no specific incident. No doubt it's one of those statements full of waffle and says nothing.

That was a statement about Piers fking Morgan not KP. They mention lack of trust for releasing details of team meetings which happened after he was sacked.

The paying public and broadcasters deserve answers to why they won't see Englands best batsman play. They are a bunch of clowns.

I disagree. They are saying clearly that he can't be trusted (as he's shown with every team he ever played on from Natal to Notts to Hants to England) and the Piers Morgan crap underlines that. Pietersen is an asshole and a very poor team member. He's a tattle tale who runs to the coach after a players only meeting and tells the coach who said what about him and he repeats confidential discussions to Piers Moron who then broadcasts them. He has fallen out with team mates and coaches at every single team who's ever played for.

There's a guy here in the US called George Zimmer. He founded Mens Wearhouse and was the face of the company, appearing in all the ads and famous for his slogan "You're going to like the way you look - I guarantee it." Zimmer has a pretty big ego and last year he felt that he should be running everything, at the expense of others and that he knew best. He gave the board an ultimatum to either remove power from the CEO and give it to him or do without him. The board decided that they could do without the face of the company and fired him. The company has prospered in the 8 month since.

There's nobody bigger than the team, a lesson KP is finally learning. I think we'll see the young players develop faster in a more conducive atmosphere now the poison has been bled from the system. The mistake the ECB made was allowing him to come back after his last big betrayal in 2012. Good riddance.

But at the end of the day, no matter how good the manager, if KP won't do what he's told he has to be sacked.

And it looks like that is where it is now at.

It's all crap anyway.

Broad and Jimmy were accused of running a parody Twitter account taking the piss out of KP a year or so ago...nothing done.

Swann wrote a book two years ago telling "secrets of the dressing room" so apparently that is OK too.

If they don't want him playing for England then have the balls to stand up and say so...don't come up with some BS excuses that half the current team have been guilty of doing the exact same thing.

I don't have an issue with England deciding that they no longer want Pietersen in the squad. He has been on the decline, no longer takes games away from teams and more often then not gives his wicket away when England needed him most.

I think the way it has been handled has been the problem. If the Management had made a clear statement from the outset then everyone could have drawn a line underneath it. Also he cannot be seen to be made a scapegoat, and England need to drop a couple of others and bring new fresh blood into the squad to plan for the future. Too many players living on past glories and not on form.

Pietersen will always split opinions but no one is bigger than the team. If he not seen as part of the plans moving forward then cutting him loose now is fine by me.

I wonder what will happen next.

I see Pietersen has had no problem finding a team that do want him to play. I hope he enjoys a Hick style county run fest, or at least entertains. I shall make a point of going to a couple of Surrey games this year. Certainly the Guildford festival, Will be hiliarious watch KP bat on a ground with a 40m boundary...

As for England, well of course I wish them well, still shocked at how fast a settled performing team can implode.

Prior, Swann, KP, Prior, Trott, Tremlett, Flower - all swept away in four months down under.

I remain hugely unconvinced by Cook, however he has staked his reputation to rebuilding, and the board have backed him (sorry) "invested" in him. Results now are the only factor.

He's only signed up for the T20 Blast at the moment and may play in others "is schedules permit" etc.

I'll definitely be going along to Lord's to watch him take on Middx.

Well he's in the IPL auction tomorrow...predictions for position in pricing? Highest? Top 3?

Certainly a hot property especially as he is available for the whole tournament. Not sure who else is being bid for. Dhoni must be the top pick ?

Dhoni has been retained by his previous club (as have quite a few others) so wouldn't be surprised if he goes for the highest bid.

Thought this was good from Warne.

I would think he would be 1 or 2 at the IPL auction. Other big names are Sehwag , Yuvraj and Kallis not retained. Will be interesting couple of days no doubt some owners will get carried away and someone unexpected gets a big pay cheque.

It would appear that KP has been signed for $1.6M ( A or US wasn't mentioned ) and Johnson $1.2M

( if our tabloid TV news is to be believed )
