Have to agree with that, Kent League often involves games inside the M25 (next season we have 6 or 7 trips there) and teams with numerous Asians. Decent blokes, rarely have any issues with them.

Season underway with a friendly, 5 overs , 2 for 15.

Have been netting well , twice a week since Christmas and feel in best nick ever , out for 1 lbw.

Got to learn to wait rather than go after it straight away , especially as I was batting at 3 frown

First game last week, friendly against a Kent Premier side. Didn't get a bowl, opened the batting and snicked off 4th ball. T20 game on Thurs, same again but this time got to 20 out of 90 before smashing one straight up in the air.

First Kent League game this Sat. I'm away til Friday so will rock up having not bowled at all and I'm skippering it. Not ideal prep. Esp as the absent captain is our main bowler.
Still, feeling fit and raring to go. Well, as fit as a creaky 48 year old anyway.

Good luck Hammer smile

This week sees our first week mid week league game , hoping for a call to play .

Saturday see's me take my first captaincy for the season, targeting promotion , no prisoners.

Age 61 and there's a tenner on the table for anyone who wants to take me on over 50 metres biggrin Given that the oldest is 32 , they are either too kind or scared biggrin

Played three games so far. One golden duck (lbw), one innings of 8 or so and a 46. Bowling has been mixed at best. 3-15 from 7 and 16 from one over last match!

Not a good start to the year for us so far.

Played 4 league games, lost 3 with one abandon due to rain.

In an effort to curtail my normal slogging , I have been opening , getting a start and then not resisting a straight drive over the top attempt frown

Really struggling to get control of this , was on 32 last week when I thought I was away and was lbw to the same dam shot. Any suggestions ?

How are you guys getting on ?

Kent League, 3 wins from 4. Similar to you busa, keep getting starts and then getting out. On Sat spent 19 overs getting set on a bit of a minefield, got to 32 and somehow played all round a straight one. Seriously hacked off with myself.

Haven't bowled much, took a 3 for in the first game.

Going to miss most of June as have got a few work trips abroad.

First win of the season today, no thanks to me.

Out first ball of the innings to a left hander hand over bowler, took leg stump guard , stood outside of that , then lbw to their umpire, shocked stunned and all of that , mate batting at the other end just said disgraceful, and off I walked.

Second win of the season against a top club, same batsman won us the game again,
this time 139 not out chasing 244.

I opened with the promise of just staying there.

First ball , over the bowlers head and straight out of the ground !

Ended up snicking one to behind for 17 , so mad , must need therapy to get control of the red mist

Played a game yesterday that rates as the best I've ever played in.

Last 16 of the National Village Cup, 115 mile trip to Hertfordshire. Was not expecting to play but got called in late last week.

Wet and wild when we arrived, started an hour late. Lost the toss and got put in. I opened and got off to a flyer. A couple of straight sixes and several slash drives/cuts got me to 40 when I holed out to deep long on at 55 for 2. Our best bat was given not out on 0 when he nicked off behind and went on to top score with 78 and we ended at 185 for 9 off 40.

In reply they lost their best bat (who scored a ton against us 2 years ago)early but were going well at 50 for 1 off 10. We shuffled the pack and the game was on a real knife edge all the way to the last over when they needed 6 to win. Last ball they needed 1 to tie and win on fewer wickets lost. We crowded the bat who smacked it straight to short mid off who fielded it cleanly and ran the bat out at the bowlers end. Won by 1 run.
Absolute bedlam ensued and we celebrated as if we'd won the World Cup. I relinquished the keys to the minibus to someone else and got stfaced on the trip back which was utter carnage. Got home at about 2am and woke up this morning still pissed. hehe

Well, my Kent League club play the biggest game in the clubs history on Sunday. Semi Final of the National Village Cup against a team from South Wales. Winners go to the Final at Lords`.

I played most of the early rounds and the first 2 national rounds, got dropped for the Quarter Final which was tough but am back in for the Semi and will be opening the batting.

Nervous? yes

Well Busa, where do I start? This game had everything including an emergency ambulance for an old girl taken ill watching and a ruck in the crowd which was several hundred strong.

Anyway, we won the toss and batted. We didn't fancy chasing under the pressure of this game and we usually defend well so was an easy decision.

I opened with Bishy, a naturalised Aussie, who got 150 in his last match. My job is to go in and whack it from the start. Bish went second ball caught at point, next over we're 8 for 2 and I've faced 2 balls. Our next man in leads both the batting and bowling stats for the whole competition and our hopes rested on him. We put on a dozen when he was triggered awfully LBW with the ball missing leg by a mile. 20 for 3 and my job to whack it changed to survival mode. I scratched around and put on 48 for the next wicket when I screwed one straight up in the air to the keeper. Out for 23 in the 22nd over.

We collapsed from 71 for 3 when I was out to 96 for 8 and we were struggling massively as our last man does not bat in any shape or form. Somehow we got to 146 for 9 off the 40 overs and were back in it. They walked off for tea thinking they'd won, you could see it in their faces.

Well at 7 for 4 that all changed. Our skip Rowey, another naturalised Aussie, is a proper seam bowler, quick, accurate and not someone I enjoy facing in the nets. He took 2 and 2 from the other end. They dug in but fell way behind the run rate, after 25 overs they still needed 100 runs and we were starting to believe it was actually gonna happen.

2 overs left they were 133 for 8 needing 14 off the last 2. Rowey would normally bowl the last over but gambled and brought himself back for the 39th and bowled the last 2 Welshmen to win the game by 9 runs.

Difficult to describe my feelings at the time but the place went nuts as you can imagine. I've never played in a game as intense because of what was riding on the result. Many tears were shed afterwards by many people from both sides and the crowd. It really was something else and you can imagine the scenes in the bar until deep into Monday morning.

We have played some good cricket, but honestly we have been a little fortunate in that the last 3 games have all followed the same format: win the toss, bat and defend it. We won the last 16 game by 1 run, the QF by 5 runs and now the semi by 9 runs so all very close finishes.

It hasn't really sunk in yet that I will be opening the batting for my club at Lords in a few weeks time.
Bring it on.

That was exciting just reading the report!

23 of 21 overs - proper old school scoring.

Yeah, like a poor mans Chris Tavare. My entry in the score book read 11111111111111144 not what was planned at all. Still I'd have happily taken a golden duck as long as we won.

Nice work.

I actually managed to leave some balls this week.

I opened and batted for 17 overs for 30, 7 x 4's along the way.

Baking hot weather and I enjoyed just watching the bowler grind himself into the track .

Well, 2017 dawns and I find myself back in the gym trying to get in some sort of shape for another season. Feeling pretty good surprisingly having done nothing since September.

I turn 50 in August so that's at least one half century in the bag laugh.

Hopefully this season will be as good to me as the last one. Lords again? Will be there one way or another.
