And breath....she did herself proud. Lets hope she can build on it, she pushed the no 1 seed to her depths

Watson has convinced me she has the potential to be a top 10 player..... she is a great athlete and mover which is a big part of being a top player. She really needs to improve her serve though; Serena was able to break serve at will.

Serena ultimately too good....... but with a bit of luck her sister Venus will beat her next round.

Good effort from Watson. Plucky. Gutsy. Etc etc.

But she had that match in her hand. And sadly let it slip.

Note the totally classless Williams walks past the fans who pay her prize money. The Brit shows how it is done.
She did a bit but Serena raised her game at crucial times just like all champions with that experience do. Re the signing, she does do them, not sure why not this time though.

I think she was a bit upset that the crowd were supporting the Brit with a bit too much gusto.

Yeah, Serena has always struggled when the crowd are totally against her. Remember the matches against Henin, especially at the French open, Serena basically couldn't cope with 20,000 people cheering her opponent and booing her good shots. The British crowd are a lot more respectful than the French though - everyone applauded Serena at the end there.

How much would Serena hate her sister if Venus beats her and stops her going for the Grand Slam hehe

The crowd annoyed me a bit, quite a few mid point interruptions.

I think Venus is far more likable as a person than Serena but nowhere near as successful a player obviously. So it would be great entertainment and open the draw right out if it happens......but I can't really see it happening, last time Venus won a slam was 2008, she is 10 years past her prime, hard to see how she beats Serena.

Then again if Watson can get within 2 points.....

Federer 'hot dog' lob on Querrey. Sublime skill (if a little naughty)

This I will never understand why anyone would think this way.

I'm really not a fan of the woman's game at the moment but Watson aside (I'm absolutely gutted for her!) that was the best woman's game I've seen in years. Stunning back and forth tennis and some the rallies...wow!

That's it I'm afraid.

Williams was never going to lose that match unless she really fell asleep.

She was a couple of aces away - Heather lost rather than Serena won it.

I'm sure the majority of people would disagree.

When Heather went 3 games up, the ultimate difference between the players was just a few key points. It was really that close.

Yes, but that was always going to happen, sorry.

I also wish Heather had won.
