Bah frown

Pretty much what I expected though. Nobody talks about Federer's serve but when he is serving like that he is even MORE difficult to break as the huge servers like Raonic, Karlovic, etc, because he can not only hit the aces but also play from the back court too.

Andy did nothing wrong, just wasn't good enough. He has a great shot at the US open.

Let me throw my dice and see who will be the crowd's favourite come Sunday.

They're rolling, rolling .. rolling

And it is

Ilie Nastase

hmmm, I think I've been knobbled by a SE Asia betting syndicate.

Wouldn't say Murray bottled it,.... Roger was top class!
Just seemed strange they were game for game until it came to the end of the set when the pressure was on. Agreed Roger was sublime today.

Yeah, you can't put most of that of Murray, Federer just looked untouchable. Any other player would have been blown away rather than narrowly beaten.

Sunday is going to be epic and make rather a mockery of what I assume will be a short women's final.

Novak looked pretty amazing earlier, so it should be some final

Stats show Murray hit 71% first serves in and made barely any errors, yet Federer had 10 break point chances. Andy, one of the best returners in the game, had 1 break point chance.

I don't think Andy bottled it... in many ways he was mentally tougher in this match than he was 2-3 years ago. He didn't get down or frustrated, there was no screaming at his box or swearing or anything. He kept it together but just wasn't good enough.

The only thing I noticed was the 5-5 or 6-5 game in the first set when Andy had a couple of chances to attack the net he seemed determined to come in on the Federer backhand even though there was 3/4 of the court to hit into on the forehand side. I think that was a predetermined tactic that backfired slightly at that key moment.

Crap questions for Murray, admittedly hard to ask question just after a defeat!

No, they would be waffling on about Andy's marriage, how supportive Kim is, etc. Then all the celeb spotting in the crowd.

Honestly Roddick is a breath of fresh air in the commentary box. Lindsay Davenport is also pretty good, I imagine they would make a good commentary pair although perhaps a little too American when combined.

Tim... his commentary style is like his playing style....... looks nice on the surface, polite and unoffensive, but very bland and doesn't quite get the job done for some reason.

I think what helps Roddick and Davenport is that they are both recently retired, and relatively new to media work. They have played against these players at the highest level within the last few years, they understand what is really going on and seem to have retained their tennis brain, rather than descending into the typical commentator cliche that the other presenters come out with..

I remembered thinking that at the time when he was asking Tim about how to judge when to come in. Tim was a great net player but very poor at communicating how to do it successfully.

Without Roddick & McEnroe the BBC commentating team would be very dire indeed (and I think I prefer Roddick). A competition as to who can utter the most general platitude.

Not a lot in this at all, just a point here and there but unfortunately both of those have been set points for Fed.

The quality of this tennis is ridiculous though.
I would disagree

The quality of Andy's serving made it appear closer than it was. I think anyone facing Federer yesterday would have gone down in straight sets. I've watched allot of Federer's matches and struggle to remember him playing much better.

Ok the forehand and volley's have looked better in other matches, but when he is hitting his backhand like that he just becomes the complete player.

You know him, aye? I've met him a few times - really decent guy.

And his sportsmanship in acknowledging how good Fed was after the game could not be faulted.

More like Williams started off badly, making about 2 in 10 first serves. Serena starts playing half decent and she can steamroller anyone.

The womens game seems to be far too short. It seems the contest has only just started, yet it's nearly over.

In these days of honed fitness regimes and high quality sports equipment, isn't it time the chicks laid on a real battle and moved to five sets...?
