If there's even the slightest chance of rain, why not close the roof beforehand?

Because they have this thing about Wimbledon being an open air tournament.

It's probably going to be a delayed tournament as well in about an hour.

I hope Federer wins but Djokovic showing how to step up when the pressures on. Champion qualities (Murray you watching.)

Ahh that game when Djokovic broke straight back was so vital. Thought Fed would be stronger and serve it out.

He is on the BBC 1 match now? Being drowned out by Andrew fking Castle though most the time.

they 'know' it is going to rain in 10 - 15 minutes and it takes about 30 to get the roof closed... so why not start now ffs?

Creepy Castle is the Ron Burgundy of sports commentary.

Although I suppose making it to the 2nd round of Wimbledon twice makes him experienced to be the senior commentator on a men's Wimbledon final. After all what has Andy Roddick done...................

Would love it (Kevin Keegan style) if Federer can win this set. Nobody wants to see a one sided final.

Graf has 22 major titles, Court has 24 - I wonder what the odds are on Serena getting to 25 - she's just won her 21st. She's going to be 34 in August but she doesn't seem to be slowing down physically.
Court isn't really a fair comparison is she? Didn't she win nearly half her slams over in Australia at a time when most of the best players refused to travel and play there. And given what happened to Monica Seles and how that helped Graf one could make a pretty strong argument for Serena already being the GOAT.

If she wins the US open, completes the golden slam and ties the record I think it is beyond debate she is the GOAT. But even if that doesn't happen I would imagine you couldn't get odds on Serena beating Graf's record, she only needs 2 more and barring some kind of horrific injury or mental breakdown it is impossible to see her not winning 2 more in the next 2 years or so.

Not to mention the 15 doubles slam titles she holds as well...... Graf has 1 IIRC.

Have you ever heard of Martina Navratilova?

1 set all bouncewoohooclap

This is a great advert for equal prize money amongst the sexes rolleyes. That tie break alone was more entertaining than the whole of the woman's final.

Game on.

Can't agree re: his backhand. He seems to be smashing most of them pretty hard.

Come on Rog.

Disagree with the backhand comment as well, against Novak if you go big too soon then it seems to give the opening to Novak so he's trying to construct the point which seems to be working. Also Fed has the same swing on the short slice so it keeps Novak guessing and when Fed plays the short one it creates that opening.

Just like the last couple of points, Fed went big down the line and unless it's a near clean winner leave the crosscourt forehand open to Djokovic and then Feds on the back foot.

Wawrinka would disagree with that. Federer's backhand was sublime against Murray, not so great today though. He struggles with it against Nadal too but I suppose that is more down to the ball bounce height.

Spot on summary, in my view. Too many errors by Fed on both sides, but many the backhand. It's one thing missing shots when you are going for winners, but Fed missed many routine backhands to give 'Joker' too many free points.

The 2nd set tie breaker was absolutely fantastic tennis. I watched it twice whilst the match was still on.

The Serbian is an incredible player, you have to let your heart rule rather than your head though to give him all the credit he deserves.

Slightly worryingly for the others I think he's going to get a bit better also before peaking.

He wins too many points from the mistakes of others for me to respect him in the same way as Federer etc, but he is an astounding player and I think you're right about him having scope to improve. His consistency, with a fair amount of brilliance too, is what won him the game today.

Most of the errors are forced errors though; they are not 'free' points to Novak, Novak has basically earned them by intimidating Federer into going for too much. The main difference between Novak and Murray is that Novak has the ability to hit the ball within about 2 feet of the baseline on a consistent basis and is able to do the same on returns - this puts massive pressure on Roger. Murray dropped the ball shorter which allowed Federer to attack with more confidence and made him look better than he actually was.

It is all about the match up really... playing Novak is a terrible match up for Roger because there is no weak area to attack... even on the second serve today Novak managed to come up with some incredible serves well into the 100mph+ range.

Fed was lucky to win a set... terrible second set tie breaker allowed him into the match but after that Novak was water tight.
