So where is that idiot who started the 'Murray not as good as Henman' thread now then? biggrin
Really, i used to refer to him as Handbag Henman. A very average player that has moments of decent performance. but overall a bit of a wet blanket
Got to no 4...not bad for an average player.

From Wikipedia
Henman never reached the finals of any Grand Slam but reached six Grand Slam semifinals and won 15 career ATP titles (11 in singles and four in doubles), including the Paris Masters in 2003. Also, he scored 40 wins and 14 losses with the Great Britain Davis Cup team.

What a brilliant match to end on. Well done Heather and Henry. Amazing that they only paired up at the start of the tournament!!

He was in major decline from 31 and hung in there for 4 years I recall. More the point, the British public were willing him to win and he usually hot his ass handed to him. Alas he was the best we had. I'll day this; a nicer person than Murray. That guy needs some serious PR help.

Murray is himself, why should he be a PR drone? He plays tennis very well and is a bit monotone and indifferent to media hype, I quite like him for that, he is himself.

I think he is a two faced sulky knob who is disrespectful to his English fans.he is a great player but I have no interest or take pride in his success.

On hen man, moose has made some good points. I think the issue for me was the public/media held him up as 'had a real shot' pedestal and reality is he didn't.

How from past match interviews can you tell who is the 'nicer person'?! Utter nonsense. I have met people who know Andy and say that he is a really nice, genuine guy. And I'm sure Tim is also.

If you like sports with personalities with good PR, watch WWE...

Without dragging it into the much even further, are you saying Nadal and Federer are whoring themselves to the media? I guess my point is , if either if those two were up against Murray in the final, the crowd would not be with Murray.

do you mean English people, in which case I disagree? Or do you mean other nationals excluding Brits, Spanish or Swiss?

He's a tennis player, not a TV presenter. Having someone shove a camera and mic in your face for live TV seconds after winning (or especially losing) a major final must be one of the hardest things to do. You only have to look at 2012 to see that.

I wonder, as he goes home with his 3rd Slam trophy and £2m cheque, to see his new baby and pump his quite attractive wife if he feels the need to justify his persona to weirdos on the internet...

Murray is brilliant, and as for lacking PR skills...good! I like him all the more for it. He's absolutely genuine. He does his 'PR' on the tennis courts. He also has a bit of fire in his belly.

Henman - he wasn't quite as good as Murray but he was very, very good and those knocking him forget just how well he often did. Wimbledon sadly eluded him but he was rarely far away. Possibly he lacked a bit of 'fire in his belly', which Murray has in spades, but in terms of talent and committment, Henman was definitely not lacking.

I never understood the seemingly modern requirement for sports people to be media people and present on tv well.

They spend all their time training at their sport, why would you give a flying fk how your post grand slam interview is going to go.

Fantastic day for the Brits - not just Murray & Heather. Don't forget Reid & Whiley in their respective wheelchair events too as you could see how much winning meant to both of them as well smile

Well done to Andy for getting it wrapped up in 3 sets. I'd felt it was going to 4 or 5 but good on him for putting it away and not letting Raonic slip in and get an advantage. You have to feel for Raonic as some of those serves were immense and Andy was just smashing them back.

As for Heather & Henri what a fantastic result for them both woohoo They really wanted that result today but still kept it fun as they have throughout the competition, as Heather referenced in their interview afterwards. So happy for her given all the crap she had after the loss in the singles and to come back and stick it to all the idiotic haters with that win is bloody fantastic biggrin Here's to more success as a doubles partnership going forward and also that this result will rub off into her form in the singles too smile

Now, in the short term, roll on Friday and the Davis cup and also the Olympics smile

I seem to recall Murray getting a huge amount of support in the Olympic final when he demolished Federer.

Great effort by Murray throughout the grass court season and fully deserved his win yesterday; I think other players with a bit more variety to their games may have given him more problems but you can only play what's in front of you and Murray did an excellent job. I do genuinely believe that he has a better all-court game than Djokovic (his volleying is far superior for example) and if Lendl sticks around for a year or so I think Murray could well be number 1 within 12 to 18 months...
