Sagan was touting Astana, Cannondale, Alonso and TinkOff. Team Alonso wont know if they have a WT place until October and I dont think many riders will hang on till then... Cannondale are rumoured to be merging with Garmin-Sharp but I dont know if thats Garmin-Cannondale or Cannondale-Garmin and thus who gets first dibs on current riders as two into one wont go so given that uncertainty TinkOff makes more sense to me than Astana...
Garmin title sponsorship is ending.

Not really, no. The question you need to consider is "would a 'better' team make him win more?". To which I suspect the answer is 'No'. He doesn't need a leadout as he's not quick enough. He needs some tactical nouse, which Bjarne might well be able to help him out with. Once you figure the £ into the equation it makes some sense. I assume the discussions with Alonso came to naught, or that they weren't prepared to dig deep enough.
I suspect a better team would actually bring more wins for Sagan [he doesn't always have to contest GT sprint stage wins].

Agree he doesn't have the outright speed of the best sprinters.. I personally think Sagan needs to nail down his speciality first.

Once he's done that a strong team with quality wingmen will pay dividends. Tinkoff are a really strong team, how they adjusted their tactics/strategy in this year's TdF was a masterclass. Even with the loss of AC, it turned out to be decent tour for them. Sky on the other hand...

I'm sorry, but there are only 2 explinations for that:
1 - Mental hard nutter bd "universal soldier" type
2 - Drugs. Lots of drugs. Especially painkillers.

I'll let you speculate..

Tramadol is a wonderful thing... but should proably be on the banned list on the grounds of "if you need to take it to ride, you shouldn't be riding".

I've always wondered about Cunego. I'm sure that long term fans on here can remember him winning the Giro in 2004.

Lampre had some legal action launched against them last year I think. I doubt he has ever given a positive test though. Unless someone on here can correct me?

CW reporting Sagan to TinkOff is now official.

Surely no one that good was going to wait until October to see if the Alonso application was successful?...

OK, anyone want to swap full Cannondale green jersey kit for the Saxo one?

Surely your team will do that for you wink

Rule 17although with a disappointing "all-matching" get-out clause

Haha - I wanted some decent bib shorts, as my bike has green bits all over it, I wanted them to match. Saw the Cannondale kit at the TdF last year, and since I didn't have a full zip jersey either (and being a bit of a sprinter myself, and a massive Sagan fan) I thought the deal for the full kit (€99) was better than spending €79.99 on a pair of shorts.

It's weird being a cycling fan though, as the team can change its entire name from year to year, not just its personnel. Imagine if Arsenal, say were called JVC for the entire time I was growing up, and then Sega, and now Emirates?

It's something I feel needs to change if the sport is going to progress.

As you say using the Arsenal example; here are some cycling ones;

Rabobank-Blanco-Belkin-…. Is the same team
BBox BouygesTelecom-Europcar = same team
TMobile-HighRoad-Columbia-HTCHighRoad = same team
Banesto-Caisse D’Epargne-Movistar = same team

I know it will never happen, but it needs to be a main sponsor/team name/bike manufacturer;

Tinkoff-Riis-Specialized
Sky Pinarello
Garmin-Slipstream-Cervelo

So, Bertie is turning up on the line in Spain then.

Contador vs Froome vs Quintana - this should be the best GT of the year.

How effective is he likely to be though, with such a short period of recovery from a fracture/break?
