That's arguably the best performance of Thomas' career. I've long though of him as a potential World class GT rider, and was beginning to give up hope that he would make the grade. Maybe I can hold out a little longer.
The man's a classy rider but I still think he is better suited to outright wins in the classics. To even finish a grand tour is an achievement however, to get your name cemented in history you need to win them. I am sure Thomas could get a high enough finish in the grand tours but unlikely he'll be able to contest the top spot.

if they have more ITT and not as many Moutain top finishes then I think he could challenge.I am sure Thomas could get a high enough finish in the grand tours but unlikely he'll be able to contest the top spot.

But that kind of begs the question why Sky signed Roche who is, in my opinion, already a better bet for GC compared to Thomas. I'd hate to see a genuine GC talent like Roche resigned to a super domestique role at Sky.
You realise they signed Nico Roche right, not the proper one?Rocksteadyeddie said:

ToB is the best type of race for him.

Monster ride From Gallopin today, may just may have done enough to secure overall victory too. Regarding Porte and Thomas's crash today, if you look at the slow-mo of Porte's crash, Thomas also loses it as well on the same corner. Maybe Wiggins has been training them on the descents.

Poor technique, inside pedal down could have just grounded slightly causing loss of grip and down you go but it's strange that Team Sky can't seem to desend in the wet?Porte said they had the tyre pressures wrong, I don't think he clipped a pedal.
Roche ride supremely well for AG2R and you don't need beat Contador or Quintana to win a GT as Horner proved, though the jury still seems out on whether that was medically assisted.... Roche is 30 now so I'm inclined to agree, I thought he was younger. Sky don't have two GT contenders though.

I'm sure he would no but I slow motioned it on Sky and I would say that I am pretty certain he just flipped a pedal!Roche ride supremely well for AG2R and you don't need beat Contador or Quintana to win a GT as Horner proved, though the jury still seems out on whether that was medically assisted.... Maybe that and pressures put his judgment slightly off?

Cancellara now moaning that they shouldnt have to ride in the snow... it was pretty bad by the time he rolled in, of course, Quintana was already changed with a mug of cocoa by then... great weekend of racing, that stage of Tirreno was a real test.
Yes indeed it was a real test in the TA and an epic performance from Quintana - good show by Adam Yates too pablo said:

to be fair I had to turn up the heating just to watch it.mcelliott said:

He's a good grand tour rider as he proved he had it in him during the top ten finish in the vuelta.
I think he was actually 5th in 2013 which is a very good result, however he would have to make a huge jump to match the likes of Contador, Froome and Quintana, IMO.Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
