I get what you are saying *but* that was an ill Pantani.
The day Marco burned EVERYBODY including Mig on his first burst onto the Tour will live long long long in my memory. A healthy Marco Pantani on a mountain will forever remain my great romantic Tour thought.
He didn't seem very ill killing every other fker! wink

I acknowledge my cognitive dissonance. Hate LA/Virenque/et al. Can't stand the thought that it's potentially still going on.

Yet adore Merckx, Mig, Pantani... Nearly bought a nice celeste Bianchi after selling the Trek (better spec than Lance's!), but then realised I was late teens, with £4k in my pocket (the bike was worth £3.5k new, I got it for under 800 notes through the dodgy dealings of my then bike shop owning boss, sold it for 4k as Trek had none in stock worldwide... Spunked the lot on beer, birds and fluff.)

Welcome the news of full data transparency post Tour, and the reports of a (seemingly credible) sports scientist allaying my fears. That'll do me.

Professional level of preparation ;-)

Did Sky won the Giro, results/wins in the classics, other big races.....??? no...

Cycling is more than just the Tour de France.
I agree there, continuing with the motorsport theme. The WEC is also more than Le Mans 24 hr.

However some events just seem to get all the attention.

IMHO froome needs to win all 3 grand tours to really distinguish himself as an all time great.

Sure he is a class rider but his cv would like better with him winning all the big ones!

I don't think Pantani was actually "healthy" for very long frown Drugs seemed to get hold of him quite badly frown

That isn't road rash - thats internal organs!

This is frigging carnage! Did y'all see the tweets and pics from Cav and co of them hitting 100kph on the descent and the cow-avoiding actions being taken?

Anyone fancy hitting a cow at 60mph on a bike?!

Suprised that the TDf would use a road that had free running cows on it.In all seriousness it could have been carnage if the Peleton hit a herd of Cows crossing the road.
Should show todays footage of how a cyclist reacts to a major injury (although to be fair he did roll about a bit when he hit the ground) to Premier league footballers.

Good ride today from Froome, and Quintana too.

Is Nibbles struggling so much now Astana are very much under the spotlight?

News that some idiot threw a cup of urine at Froome in protest of him doping. Not cool.

Pretty poor behaviour, whipped up by 'irresponsible' reporting from certain journalists. Accusing riders of doping is a serious business. If they have genuine evidence of doping then run the story - if not, and it's based on 2+2=5 then don't bother. I don't have a problem with journalists investigating doping; we all want a clean sport, but making things up/ guess work isn't really helping.
I've no idea if Sky are clean, I hope they are, I can't believe they'd take the chance; Team Sky & British Cycling are linked - can you imagine the fall out?
I just think they've entered the sport and decided to do things differently; a lot of the other teams are set in their ways.

Finally, they look like they're in line to win a 3rd TdF. Only the 3rd GT they've won out of 17 - and have 1 podium in a Monument. Hardly domination.

Would be great to think that they are clean. Read an excellent article yesterday by David Walsh (will try to source where, was an Irish Newspaper), he doesn't accuse them of doping, he just highlights a few concerns.

Dumb line from Barguil, fortunately only cost Thomas about 40 seconds, but a foot or so further right and he'd have been head first into the telegraph pole.

Were there sheep in the field? Does Barguil know something about the Welshman we don't?

The split is with British Cycling rather than DB and the Pro Race team. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/cycli...

To be fair, Barguil took a knock from TJvG and had to let off the brake, he said so after the race and you can see it here:

One of the Lotto Jumbo guys and TJvG also changed line by undertaking Quintana which limited Barguil's options I guess.

That wasn't shown on ITV4 when I was watching. Thanks for the clarification.
