Brian Cookson wins the UCI Presidential election ousting Pat McQuaid. Will we now see the UCI change for the better or will it be more of the same?

Can't believe it was so close. That fat crook can finally fk off, him and Verbruggen should be locked up the lying scumbags.

Look out for the skeletons to come out of the closet now though, there will be some new revelations to come but hopefully this will be the final change needed to properly clean up cycling.

McQuaid going is a step in the right direction. It's not the end though, because Cookson has been part of the establishment.

If Cookson has any sense he'll only serve one term and the pass on to someone "clean".

Do you mean outside cycling completely Giz?

Is that the only way to fix it, in your opinion?

I believe froome is planning on giving it a go, will be interesting to see how he compares to nibalI...

Both are superb riders and capable of a win.

Not had a chance to review the course in detail yet.

It's on the BBC is it not chaps?

Cavendish doing a decent turn on the front in the early stages. Him and Luke Rowe obviously there to do the donkey work early on to save the really destructive riders for the circuit.

I still find it interesting that the riders have the bibs and jerseys on, but the helmets and bikes are from their trade team. Is that preference of the riders? I presume being familiar with your kit is important?

Sounds like Wiggo has screwed up though, got himself on the wrong side of a split in the peleton.

no, an end to rather poor year from BW. I didn't expect him to do well anyway.

Damn looks like Dan Martin has crashed and no Irish left now.

Who's the girl on the BBC commentary...barely audible but from what I can make out not exactly great anyway.

Nothing as far as I know. But strong links to Makarov - yes, he's management committee so some contact is normal - don't fill me with confidence. And although I was impressed by his move to call the vote the other day, he just doesn't have the gravitas needed to command political clout (IMO).

He's a good transitional appointment, but you never fix an organisation in one step. Think of Man City - you needed two high- quality managers to get the team to almost-believe they could win, but a third change sealed it. Cookson will point it in the right direction for someone to then take it forward. Could be someone external - just an administrator, but I think it should be an ex-cyclist. Someone like David Millar?

And at 1431 just after the BBC live coverage starts: all the Brits are back in the bus and out of the race.

My money's on Gilbert btw.
