Morning all, after a pretty bad day yesterday I've given it a lot of thought overnight. I'm applying for the coaching job! #StraussLogic
It is st like this that demonstrates exactly why Strauss was right not to pick him. I thought it likely that the door had been left slightly open for him to make the World T20 squad next year but writing stuff like this that will ensure that door is firmly shut.

I'm already dreading the moaning he'll be doing when he gets omitted from that squad, "What trust issues? What have I done? Boohoohoo, poor me."

. And not even a fit . He can't even make it through one 4 day game without going lame, how exactly is he supposed to play two hard test series?

Yes, they should stick with Cook whose test average is still up there compared to 2011, and who regularly scores triple centuries against 3rd rate county teams.
He's also a much nicer fella and doesn't offend anyone (outside of Yorkshire).
Cook has 6 or 7 years to regain some form & build on already being England's greatest ever Test centurion.
KP's Test career is over.
Apples & oranges, anyone?

It's only over because he won't get selected to play.

I think it's a failing of the ECB and coaching staff that the squad can't be managed with a difficult but excellent player like KP as part of it.

KP's performances in county cricket and the inevitable pasting from NZ and Australia are going to make this decision look rather odd.

KP is high maintenance and does some really stupid stuff but despite that he's easily good enough at playing cricket to get into the squad.

He's been averaging high 20's in his last 15-20 Tests, so you do have a point. thumbup

Sure but 326 not out against Leicestershire. I know it's not the ashes but those aren't end of career kinds of innings.

T20 blast starting tomorrow. Wahab Riaz just signed for Surrey, whilst Leicester have snapped up Umar Akmal. Some good overseas players this year, the likes of McCullum, Gayle, Darren Sammy, Dilshan and Finch.
Oi what do you think you're doing? This is the KP whinge thread! silly

it was 355 not out and it will not count because the oppositon bowled underhand full tosses.Or so some would have us believe.
It think our plan for winning the Ashes is to make the Aussies laugh so much the injure themselves

So I see that more and more current and ex players are coming down on the side of KP...very interesting.

Do we think any decent coach is going to bother with the England gig knowing they woukd be working with an incompetent backstabbing set up where you aren't even able to pick the players you want?

They're probably on their third change of pants laughing so hard that anyone thinks Leicestershire are in any way comparable to an Aussie attack (though a few years ago there may have been a point!).

plenty of respected people in the game think he was told to join a club and score lots of runs.
Never mind waiting for the Aussies to murder us New Zealand will be looking forward to the mess that is England at present.
And I wonder who informed them of this...scratchchin

Anyone other than his supporters prior to this episode saying anything other than "maybes"? (I even read some prose on the BBC site that suggests even Strauss didn't totally slam the door - just that he wasn't being considered ahead of the Ashes!).

I also thought it interesting that he's dropped his final IPL commitments due to injury...

Looking forward to a couple of days at the final test this summer, despite all this bs smile

Exactly. He is out for 6 weeks apparently so wouldn't even be in the squad. So all this moaning from Piers about how this is a tradegy of the highest order and he is injured anyway.

Injury confirmed as a tear of the petulantis egomanis. Should make a full recovery long before the start of the next round of IPL auctions.

Some perspective. It was his first 1st class century for nearly 2 years so hardly the culmination of a rich vein of form. He was dropped 4 times, the first time before he reached the first hundred. If we were talking about 95 against one of the weakest bowling attacks in the championship would we be making such a fuss?

Some perspective as well:

Not many centuries, let alone multiple centuries, are made without giving the odd chance.

If the bowling attack are so weak, why aren't multiple centuries scored against them by other top batsmen on a regular basis?

Cook has had plenty time to regain some form, but hasn't. In any other sport he'd be dropped. But he is an ECB type chap so he gets as long as it takes.

Just got back from the wkhede Stadium, having seen Mumbai beat Kolkata with the last ball of the match in the IPL. What an experience! Talk about going mental, I have never heard such noise, seen so many flags, or felt such heat - dripping with sweat just watching them. Malinga, Pollard, Harbijan, all did their stuff. What a buzz, nothing like the 3 day long test matches at all. Everyone from little kids to old women, faces painted, team shirts everywhere, such a spectacle and an all round brilliant experience. If you ever get a chance, go and see it. Fantastic smile

2014 he avg just over 30 and just 3 50's but as you say nice clean cut Guy speaks well and will not cause any media problems.

He's also the captain, with no obvious replacement. He'd have been toast some time ago otherwise.

Meanwhile FIGJAM is injured at the same time as there being no batting slot vacant to fill in the England team. And yet the media fuss continues.
