I have tickets for day 4 of the Ashes at Edgbaston.
By the looks of things I'll maybe see about 10 overs on that day!
If you're lucky. I also have Day 4 tickets for Cardiff, not holding out much hope. On the upside the day pass is booked in with the mrs so if there's no cricket... well she doesn't need to know and a day on the lash beckons...
Same here!

Yes, they should stick with Cook whose test average is still up there compared to 2011, and who regularly scores triple centuries against 3rd rate county teams.
He's also a much nicer fella and doesn't offend anyone (outside of Yorkshire).
Cook has 6 or 7 years to regain some form & build on already being England's greatest ever Test centurion.
KP's Test career is over.
Apples & oranges, anyone?
Cook has had plenty time to regain some form, but hasn't. In any other sport he'd be dropped. But he is an ECB type chap so he gets as long as it takes.
Good morning. smile

Not the worst choice in the circumstances.

Hopefully this will be the start of a new chapter and we can actually move forward

Not to be confused with the wind up radio inventor.

Well travelled, managed teams in both ODI and test formats. I reckon it's a good choice. Very highly thought of apparently.

It's now official. Decent choice from Strauss and the ECB.

As a Yorkshire supporter I am happy Gillespie is staying. As an England supporter I think they should have chosen Gillespie.

Lets see how Bayliss does though.

I think Strauss did well to convince Bayliss to take the job considering he was turned down 12 months ago.

I think Bayliss is a better choice than Gillespie. Gillespie has done very well at Yorkshire but that is pretty much the total of his coaching experience. I also wonder if it had been offered to him whether he actually would have taken it (he has young kids and the England job would keep him away from home for 300 days of the year). I think he could be a great international coach in the future but England are probably safer to go with an experienced coach right now.

I was at Lords yesterday, my god, what a day. Well done to the ECB for sorting out the £20 tickets.

Very pleased JG is staying at YCCC can't think who would we would replace him with. JG has coached elsewhere , he has coached in IPL , Zimbabwe and coaches in the big bash in the winter.

There were rumours that Gillespie was concerned about the level of independance he would have as coach.
They have already confirmed Cook's captaincy and KP's non-selection: could the coach eg. bench a player without 3 levels of management meetings?

Scored a 92 the other day too. He's no on 141 now. Needs 14 in 3 balls to win.

Somerset fan here, went to the game today.

Feel privileged to have seen him in his pomp today. Bloke is 35 and won't be around for ever so chuffed that the kids and I saw him before he retires. Okay, before anyone says, yes I know the wicket suits batsmen but he was brutal today. One of his sixes landed on the bridge that overlooks the ground... that is 120 metres plus, a massive hit. Three more into the river, three into the churchyard.... if only someone had stayed around a little longer, we would have won.

Gayle - 62 balls, 151 runs
Everyone else - 58 balls, 63 runs and that included ten extras.

It was. For Somerset to score 224 and lose was harsh but really needed someone to stay in with him. Hildreth hit 29 but both Trescothick and Trego got out cheaply and it ended up putting pressure on Gayle that he shouldn't have had.

451 runs is the 4th or 5th highest aggregate for a match in the history of T20. Felt privileged to be there.

Incredible knock from Gayle to dominate the innings total like that.

Kent's Sam Northeast is in a great vein of form in T20. 330 runs in 5 innings this season at an average of 82.
