I'm always bemoaning the lack of imagination in bowlers runups....
Genuine question, why is that something to bemoan? Conventional wisdom is that your run-up should be as straight as possible down the line you want to bowl. There's not much you can do with runups because you have a start point and an end point where you release the ball and apart from doing a "360" halfway down or a couple of dainty little hops and skips, there's not much else you can do. I meant actions as in there used to be a multitude of delivery actions whereas nowadays, everyone seems to be much the same.
I'm going back to the 1970's and 80's now with Mike Procter bowling off the "wrong" foot, Jim Griffiths' weird action, Jeff Thomson's side-on delivery, Graham Dilley dragging his toe through the dirt before release, Hallam Moseley's windmill action. Nowadays, they are pretty much uniform bar a couple of the spinners.

Not taking anything away from the youngster, but they were under 16's playing a younger side as "the older boys had exams" according to the Guardian.
So that score was achieved on a small pitch against a substitute side of younger kids. Look at the other figures : opposition bowled out for 31 and 52. Hardly an even contest.

Looks like Matt Hobden fell asleep on a roof on NYE and then fell to his death.

Such a loss, he came to do a bit of coaching with the kids at our club as he was friends with our first team captain. He hung around the bar afterwards and seemed a top chap. It's a tad odd that the police stated not suspicious so early, but maybe that's just me watching to many Midsomer Murders...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3387174/Ri...
Also sad to read the death of another young player, Tom Allin. He played for Warwickshire in 2013 before moving to Devon. Again not suspicious, his body was found at the bottom of a bridge
I'm so upset about the fact that test cricket is dying and is being replaced by people hitting five sixes in a row. That's not a proper sport.
Each to their own but I have played cricket my entire life and would sooner watch lawn bowls than T20, especially any of these Big Bash, Ram Slam, Georgie Pie Super Smash(!), IPL, BPL, CPL etc. joke tournaments. They're all utter garbage and have about as much to do with proper cricket as a slightly wet dog.
People enjoy them which is fair enough but I wish people wouldn't take them seriously. It is to cricket, what WWE is to proper wrestling.
I wish I had the answer to test cricket's declining popularity outside of England and Australia (and possibly NZ and SA). At the current rate, I can't see it lasting more than 10-20 years.
EDIT: Just to highlight my point, a friend just informed me that in the Big Barbeque or whatever it's called, Pietersen just hit a four and it almost hit a security guard who was on the field during play popping a beach ball. This is the same tournament in which retired cricketer Freddie Flintoff was live on TV singing Elvis songs whilst fielding the ball. If that is the future of cricket, I'm getting my bowls trousers on.

I just can't see Sri Lanka, West Indies, possibly Pakistan or India being able to raise decent test sides in years to come. All the marketing and money goes to T20. England and Australia aren't the problem.
Give it 15 years and we will have an annual "Ashes Super Series" or some st as the only test matches. Then, once people get bored of watching batsman biffing average bowling into the stands, the grounds will close and the game will die.
I'm a very optimistic person (I realise I don't sound it) but I struggle to see a way back for test cricket.
And no offence to Ireland etc. but they're never going to replace the likes of WI, SL etc.

I'd say if Test cricket is going to survive it needs to include the likes of Ireland, Scotland, Holland etc. Everyone's going to get bored of watching the same teams over and over - even the Ashes is beginning to look a little stale. We need to get more international teams on board, mix it up a little.

Now that tours are short and sharp I cant see why we cant do a "rest of the world" type team on a regular basis. You could bring in players from other test playing nations as well as the associate members. You can do a three test series in a month these days.

I kind of like a Cricket Barbarians idea You can do a three test series in a month these days.
I also think it would work a lot better than the Rugby Barbarians of the last couple of decades.
Most test teams now have a short sharp warm up camp and a crappy warm up game or two. With a bit of thought it could be seriously competitive, not a bit of a beano.
BUT it would probably only work on a serious level in Aus and England - where test cricket is already strong.
Will be interesting to see how it works out with PAK this summer - not so long ago the atmosphere was great when they were playing over here.
