Associates are not so weak especially 'the netherlands' yeah right...bas aside...

And Pakistan are a basket case mostly and probably other things at play although you hope Mickley Arthur is above that, but it's honestly not unusual for a team to not use their allocation in an odi. It's quite common and any bearded wonders can probably do some sort of analysis of associates vs full members if they cared.

That's all my point was, it's not an unusual occurrence or any indication of achievement tbh. Had they got them out cheaply in side 50 overs then yes, that would be a bit more noteworthy, but such is the randomness of cricket its actually not that much. If they go deep in it then thats noteworthy.

Anyway this must be the least exciting, worst publicised, built up WC...zero buzz, poor crowds little interest outside the home team and nearby and the BCCI simply don't care.

Sad sight for what was the showpiece in cricket. I remember being introduced to Bangladesh team as a kid in 99 as they were hosted locally and despite them then being an associate and being aware of none of their players it was a huge deal.
This all seems like an afterthought. frown
Seems I was right who'd have thunk it! About associates, the patronising Netherlandsfor managing to bowl a team out and thr intense crappiness of this WC.

It's almost as if the BCCI don't give f**k...

India beating Sri Lanka by 302 runs! That would be a crushing defeat in a Test Match, let alone a 50 over game.

Can anyone put their finger on why hardly any of the games have been close? We’re now 33 matches into this tournament and there’s probably been only two close matches and even in one of those, neither team even got to the 48 over mark, so hardly a sign of world class cricket.

Think there are a few things.

Couple of teams have turned up in extremely good form, India obviously and SA (apart from that one upset) and have beaten some opponents easily.
One of the major teams (us) has turned up as a bag of st. We have not only lost most of our games, but have been comprehensively beaten in some. Even if we didn't necessarily win, some of our games should have been much closer - India game for example, we bowled and fielded well and restricted them, but the batting was appalling
Everyone turned up expecting spin to dominate, but the 3 of the top 5 wicket takers are pace bowlers. Think this has taken some teams by surprise, SL yesterday was a good examples, the pacers ripped through the order,

Yeah, England! did pretty well by restricting India by 228 or so runs, But the batting displayed by them was pretty poor. There was no need for that shot by stokes at that point.

Having watched India V Sri Lanka yesterday I suppose one can say that Sri Lanka, despite being all out for 55 runs in under 20 overs,, are at least three places higher in the league table than England and seventh in the league.

Bizarre dismissal in the match just now. It seems a little unfair as it seems to have been caused by a failure of some essential safety equipment.

I've never been to a live cricket match and rarely watch the game but I really enjoyed the Ashes this year. I put in for some tickets and got an email saying I had won Day 3/4/5 of the Men's test against Sri Lanka. This is in September.

Each seat costs £100 and if I go ahead I'd probably get two seats and drag my partner along.

I have no idea if this is seen to be an exciting test match, is it destined to be a great game, is it a mundane type of affair. I also have no idea how "special" it is to have the seats available to purchase, is it something I should snap up? Any thoughts?

I'm keen to go to a game and looked at county fixtures last summer but just didn't get around to it.

Thanks

Im not sure how quick those sorts of matches sell out. If you had been selected for an Ashes match I would say dont hesitate.

An international against SL is going to be far more interesting that a county fixture. You'll go to a county match and there will be 3 other people there and unless you are very lucky you wont see any of the centrally contracted players. Giving how the England test team have played recently SL are unlikely to pose a huge problem for them, but you should see some big hitting and aggressive play from England.

The Vitality Blast is a good way to experience a live Cricket game, its T20 so opposite end to Test cricket but the tickets are dirt cheap and its a good party atmoosphere. I went to a few last year. Get some beers and a burger great night. I saw Northants v Lancashire and David Wiley and Jos Butler were playing so you get some big names in as well

I have only been to one day of the ashes, at Lords, with my dad a few years ago. Obviously very differenf to watching on tv but very much worth it for the atmosphere and being close to the action. Pot luck if you get a good days cricket

If you have a choice of which day you go on, I'm not sure I'd pick day five. Since the advent of Bazball, you're much less likely to even get a day five... hehe

Go for day three or day four.

Agreed, against SL I'd select Day 3.

Don't bother.

SL are dire currently, England will have thrashed them long before day 5, 100 quid for a game which won't sell out is daylight robbery.

Also ignore the one man and his dog trope re. county championship games...its true of some counties, and it can feel like that in the TMGs (trent bridge, old Trafford and headingley less so) even when ther are a thousand or so in, but head down to Taunton or Chelmsford for example, on day 1 of a nice weather day and there will be a very healthy crowd in, admittedly mostly older, and the players won't be stars necessarily and possibly a bit slow in the game situation, although the likes of durham are very much into bazball, but many county games have oodles of charm for what it is...

Alternatively a festival ground in what passes for high summer is a very pleasant experience and in division 1 at the top at least the intensity of cricket is very high and the tension can be extreme...see Lancs vs Essex at Blackpool this summer gone (although the weather was not very summery for it)...outstanding game of cricket at very high standard, down to the last over all 3 results possible to very near the end.

T20 can ease you in but the crowd is more of a football variety, again especially at the bear pits of Taunton and Chelmsford, oval/Lords of a weekday evening full of pissed up city types (guilty as charged).

Depends really what you liked about the ashes as this would determine what would be recommended.

A one day cup game, despite being a 2nd xi competion basically now, on a Sunday draws in very healthy crowds for a good few counties, again and a less football atmosphere than a t20 typically.

Edit see you have day 3 or 4, as well option but maintain my don't bother... 100 quid for a Sri Lanka test is way to high given there ill suited to English conditions and a bit crap at the mo.

Thanks everyone that's really helpful.

I would definitely prefer this kind of atmosphere than a few older guys watching with a cup of coffee (no offense if anyone falls into this category). I love the football style atmosphere and I'm there for the day out more than the intense interest of a game of cricket - that is just a good way of being entertained and I enjoy watching almost any sport.

I will probably take another persons advice and go for a T20 game. I like the look of the summer evening games.

Yeah, maybe better off spending that SL money elsewhere:

a game vs SL won't have anything like the intensity or crowd engagement of an ashes game so would recommend steering clear. India/Pakistan would be different story albeit in a massively partisan crowd in favor of them, but likely a different price too.

A T20 evening game sounds about right for you, whereabouts are you as some counties are a bit soulless...whereas others are bouncing. An England ODI or T20 would also suit your requirements.

Could be a good game. Although India beat NZ in the group stage it was one of their harder matches. India do have a bit of history of choking when it matters although this far they have been imperious

I think India have learnt and will win this. The other SF is anyone’s game.
