SA made 439 for 2, can Gayle step up?
That's higher than the average test match score.

Just flicked it on because of your posts. Insane. I remember when 250 was a good score.

Unbelievable stuff.

Amla was 114* when de Villers came in and AB nearly caught him up!! The pair put on 192 off 11.1 overs, incredible stuff.

Second fastest ton in cricket history if you include t20 games, fastest ever if you don't.

Some Stats from the game, via cricinfo:

31 Balls in which AB de Villiers got to his hundred, a world record. The previous record was held by Corey Anderson who scored a 36-ball hundred against West Indies in Queenstown.

16 Balls in which De Villiers got to his fifty, another world record. The previous record was held by Sanath Jayasuriya, who scored 50 of 17 balls against Pakistan in 1996.

16 Number of sixes hit by De Villiers, equaling the world record for the most sixes in an ODI innings, by Rohit Sharma during his innings of 209 against Australia in 2013.

40 Minutes in which De Villiers got to his hundred. He needed only 19 minutes to reach fifty.

3 For the first time in ODIs, the top three batsmen in a team scored hundreds. Hashim Amla hit 153, Rilee Rossouw made 128, and de Villiers blasted a 44-ball 149

To be fair these totals are just going to get higher & higher when the bowler only has about a square foot as to where he can bowl the ball. Cricket is in my opinion a battle between bat & ball & one day bash is not.

It's taken South Africa 9 years to beat their previous best (by a single run) which was also scored at this ground. The altitude also has much to do with the scoring. The record for fastest 50 had also stood for 19 years, so these scores aren't increasing on a daily basis.

That's why it's not funny. They actually think that. Plod along getting 1's and 2's and accelerate in the last 10 overs.

The highlights of De Villiers' innings are staggering; I've never seen anyone move about the crease like that. Bob Willis says he's better than Viv Richards!
When you say highlights - I think there were only 3 dot balls in his innings !

A fantastic knock by ABDV , unbelievable watching it , some good shots wasn't as if he was slogging over cow corner. When his career comes to an end he will be up there as a SA great.

Agreed. I just watched that innings - a mixture of brute force and inspired shot making. Some of those reverse shots and pulls outside off stump were just crazy!!!

What I find odd is, the bloke has said sorry and that's the end of it? I'd throw the book at the sweaty unwashed .
