That top 3 could be the most boring line up around.

really isn't fun watching this team play at all.

I honestly had no idea they were playing Trott and Ballance in the same team....

Perhaps the ECB think I might pay £100 for a test match ticket to watch us bat all day for less than 200 runs...

At least the Hammer of Justice is on form.

Great innings by Bell and Root but same old from England. Playing a lowly ranked Test Team and we need prep for NZ and Auz. So we start with a number 3 opening the batting, and playing a spinner who is rubbish in the 4 day game. While we leave a opener in Lyth who had an excellent county season, and the spinner who took the most wickets last season carrying the drinks.

Sometimes you can't make this up. England is a boys club, who just play there mates and no matter what form they are in and stuff any one else.
I'm hoping we don't get rolled over by NZ and ruin my trip to Edgbaston to watch the Ashes.

If you'd offered me 345 / 5 at the start of the day I'd have taken it.

It was an odd team selection , Treadwell played 4 FC games last season , yet Rashid took loads of wickets last year and is carrying drinks. As Ali is more than likely flying back for the 2nd test be interesting to see how they move the order around to fit him in.

Htf can that be true?

England have introduced Compton, Root, Balance and Ali in the last cpl of yrs. Thats 40% of the team changed. The test team was recovering it's form before the 9 month break for silly cricket. Before his health problems Trott was England's most trusted batsman.

Moral victory for West Indies, poor showing by a few batsmans just hope our bowlers take up the slack! Strange choice of winning the toss and bowling 1st!

Fair enough Ballance is playing, and Ali has come good but where is Compton or Rashid?? Why not play them in this series? Why is Trott playing as an opener?? Why not play Lyth?? Why play Treadwell? If you want to play a spinner Rashid is your man.
It feels like they bring these players on tour to put a tick in the box, or to show us that they are giving players a chance but never actually play them.

Ali is your spinner surely? (Even though he was picked for his batting skills initially!)
I forgot the introduction of Joss the Boss aswell and Chris Jordon.

So that is a fair change in the team, in fact it is over 50& change!

And the ever revolving face of the 2nd opener is something haven't solved I agree.

Never mind England, I'm pleased to see that my native county have picked up where they left off last season and given Worcestershire a proper hammering despite half their first team carrying drinks in the Caribbean!

I hadn't realised Leicestershire haven't won a pukka 1st class County game in over 2 yrs.
