So the third test is about to start, England to bat first having won the toss.

England unchanged, which seems to me to be missing a trick. I really want Trott to find some form, but I more want us to try something different with the bowling line up. It seems that apart from Anderson the other bowlers have been picked by their ability to bat.

C'mon England.

TMS in the background, work pottering away gently, what will the first session bring. A touch of moisture on the ground but once that's burnt off then it should be a perfect batting track.
I dont understand England. 1-0 up in the series, good chance to give a couple of people a game i.e. Lyth as an opener, and Rashid with the ball. What do they do decide to keep exactly the same side, and look what happens Trott who is NOT an opener gets out again for a low score.

Do England take these extra players just for a laugh and to carry the water or get 'experience' being on tour?
I do hope no-one gets injured before the NZ and Aus test because we will be stuffed as no-one else has any experience.

It's because people's jobs were/are on the line. If they'd picked the players 'to give them a game' etc. and lost the match/series then sackings all round after the World cup. Going with the players they know, they knew they'd beat a second rate WI team.

But thats just looking short term. I dont get why they played Trott. He is a number 3 and always has been, Ballance is in the side now, and we know Ali is going to be the second opener alongside Cook so why dont they play Lyth who is a natural opener. They obviously deem him good enough to take on the tour so why not give him 3 games against the WI. Trott certainly was a gamble so why not take it with Lyth.

Also we need an alternative to the 4 quicks as they are all very simlar. We tried Tredwell which didn't work, and we know what Broad and Anderson are going to give you. Stokes is supposed to have had a knock so why not give Rashid a match. Altenative to the seem bowling, and WI are very cautious with the scoring so you can protect him a little bit. Sitting on the boundary carrying the water isn't really going to help him.

We basically deciding that this is the team that will take on NZ and Aus and thats it. What happens if Broad, Jimmy, Jordan or Stokes gets injured? You have Lyth, Plunkett, Rashid who have had no game time and then have to somehow come into the side at short notice. Im not saying change the whole team, but make 1 or 2 changes. Have a bit of forward planning.

I completely agree with you...I was just anwswering your question. I'm still the idiot that thinks we should be picking KP.

3 down already I see. The next few series are going to be tough watching for England fans I fear.

Thats it for Trott. The only change I would have made would be Lyth for Trott.

We have just brought Ali back into the team, so if introducing another player I would have kept it to just the one.

Ballance and Bell falling is unusual, but Chef seems to be coming back into some sort of form, so that is good. Would like to see some runs from Bell in the 2nd innings.

Root if he can get another 50 will have a world record. Trott creating records the other way.

Why are they still playing him and hoe much longer for? Is it just a case of being stubborn against the slings and arrows from them journo's.

There was, for a long time, a procession of people coming into the England team for one or two games, never getting chance to become settled before showing the door. That revolving door went for years spinning faster and faster. Fortunately that has now stopped, however it does need pushing slowly but I think it's got stuck, trapping players that shouldn't be there. Trott as an opener was a chance worth trying, but it's obvious to all apart from CHef and Moore that it hasn't worked. It would have made far more sense to have given Lyth a try and I really hope he, or possibly Hales gets a chance against NZ. Having said that, it's always been considered careless to change a winning team.

6 out of 9 for Chef now on the half tons. Level with Goochie for Englishmen with the highest half tons+ in Tests.

Form, class, etc.

Ali could do with a decent score here.

Oh Chef frown

Sold Ali down the river and the poor lad took it for the team and Skipper.

Chef...you owe us a ton now.

Some very poor batting by England to give the Windies 7 wickets. Chef may have finally got a ton and well deserved and needed though it was, he sold Ali down the river and then gave his wicket away when a daddy was on offer. Root, I think every batsman in the world will agree, simply gave his wicket away, on a plate, with a 15% tip.

I've only just turned the text coverage on, suggestions on there that the ball is swinging?

Boom. Jimmy.

Underpar batting performance I think we all agree. Jimmy to win the thing on his own again?

Boom Boom!

5-2.

Chef dropped Bravo off Broad. Takes a chance off Jimmy in the next over to remove poor Hape on his debut. Son - you just been Burnley'd!
