Another decent round today. shot a gross 74 (+2). Might see me down to 4.7, CSS depending.
Nice, exactly the same for me last night under our floodlights.Probably my 'steadiest' round in about 3 years, 14 pars, 3 bogies, 1 birdie.
Greens had maintenance done on them on Sunday so putting was an absolute lottery, couldn't buy a birdie putt.
We have any away match tomorrow where the greens will be significantly better so hoping I can capitalise on tee to green.

that is exactly the level i'm aiming for... what do you practice the most? 100 yds & in? Chipping/pitching? Putting? i average around about 7 pars per round with a birdie or two thrown in....but then i'll still shoot between 82-86 due to double bogeys creeping in!Probably my 'steadiest' round in about 3 years, 14 pars, 3 bogies, 1 birdie.

Honestly, I hardly practice, bores me to death, I'd rather play.On the odd occasion I go midweek I will concentrate hitting to 3 greens that are 80, 105 and 125 yards away as most of my approaches are that length.
Season is about to start properly here after a long hot summer, my chipping will need some work sooner rather than later as I've changed my wedge lofts.

Its the hip and core in him I read. It all flexes out and crushes the drive. That Vapor Tour is a gorgeous looking driver.

It's a number of things but his rotational speed (rotational velocity) is right up there.Amateur golfers manager around 350 degrees per second
Tour pros average about 550 degrees per second
Rory is up at around 700 degrees per second
His arm speed is also quicker than the tour average as is his club-head speed.
I imagine his impact numbers are pretty good too, generating very little spin and near perfect launch conditions.

My score from a couple of weeks ago. Finally down to proper single figures.
I started playing 5 years ago this month. I've had 5 lessons in that time which sorted grip and posture (that always will be an ongoing battle for any golfer)
Once you understand the components of a swing you can start to work and alter them.
How often do you play?
Short irons, wedges and my putter is where my handicap is…. and that is exactly where I spend the time practising. (I spent 3 hours yesterday and hit about 300 balls)
I got down to 11 without practice a few years back. Just as i thought - a LOT depends on hitting lots of balls from 150 yards and in - that's where the scores are made.

I only started playing golf last year, did 3 rounds and was pretty poor, hitting around 120 and coming comfortably last in a group of guys who have played for a while. I would hit a couple of good shots in a round, but the majority would all over the place with no consistency and many lost balls.
This year I'm going to try and sort this out, I've bought myself some Wilson Deep Red clubs and had 3 lessons so far, starting to build my swing and getting to the range a couple of times per week. The difference the lessons have made has been incredible. I'm obviously concentrating on technique rather than power so not hitting it far, but hitting straight with a decent trajectory is starting to happen more often. I play my first round in a couple of weeks, bit sooner than I would like but I am looking forward to see how that goes.
How are you getting on? Reason for asking is that I am thinking of taking up golf, I last played about 15 years ago and had a few clubs and a couple of lessons and we sound about the same standard This year I'm going to try and sort this out, I've bought myself some Wilson Deep Red clubs and had 3 lessons so far, starting to build my swing and getting to the range a couple of times per week. I'm looking at getting a starter set of clubs and having some lessons and was looking at the Wilson Deep Red complete set so was wondering how you are getting on with them?
Also does anyone have any other recommendations for a good starter set of clubs?
Also #2 anyone here from the Milton Keynes area who is a regular at Abbey Hill would mind a novice tagging around the 9 hole course with them?

Got round in 130. I'm going to sort some lessons next week as I don't have any work on at the moment. Just getting the ball off the ground with the low irons would be a start - the long par 4 and 5's take a while to navigate with a 7 iron. My one saving grace is that I appear to at least be able to hit the ball straight.
PH'ers dillema:
I made it into the matchplay final of the club championships yesterday - 2 players over 36 holes, to be held next Sunday.
Trouble is it coincides with my annual 8 hour TV pilgrimage which is the incredible Bathurst 1000km race.
So, golfy PH'ers - live, edge of the seat motorsport or golf finals, which one wins please?

So your alternative is to forfeit and deny the other guy the pleasure of the match?
I'd play. Tape the racing if you need to.
I understand Jim but the other finalist is the narky player who tried his little tricks (belching on the tee box and other inappropriate behaviour) to put me off - he'd be over the moon if I forfeited, winning at all costs is his goal and not having to play me would delight him.I'd play. Tape the racing if you need to.

Give him the result and watch the racing.
Or better yet - give him the result, then go for a game of golf with someone else!

That made me chuckle.
The odd thing is that he's my neighbour, I give him one of my paddocks for free for his sheep to graze on and he's invited me for dinner numerous times ( I never go) but as soon as he's on the course he becomes an absolute arse.
He delivered free firewood to me this week but yesterday he blanked me the whole way round the course.
Thanks for the input Jim, I'll play him and record Bathurst.
