I played in the finals of the Club Championship on Sunday - it was my least enjoyable golf ever, I was so full of nerves and painkillers for a bad back that, in front of 40 members, I hit my first tee shot 6 feet.
It was a baking hot day, 36 holes and against an excruciatingly devious opponent. He wouldn't talk to me the whole way round and did his usual tricks of belching in the tee box, murmuring little things to put me off and standing too close whenever he could.
I played horribly tensed up golf and couldn't wait for it to end, it took 32 holes to win, he gave me the limpest handshake possible, said something narky to my caddie and walked off of the course.
Lovely day out........

Sounds like an absolute T***. Surely if its the Club Championship Final, you'd have a ref? Where were they in all this? I absolutely love playing matchplay against guys like that.It was a baking hot day, 36 holes and against an excruciatingly devious opponent. I was up against a bush in a Scratch team match 2 years ago, one of those types had done it a couple of times and was doing it again.
He didn't realise that I had to make a hugely exaggerated out to in swing to even get to the ball, clipped him on the shin on my practice swing and blew him a kiss.
Well done on the win.

Thanks Duncan, presentations are next Saturday, I'll post up bragging pics if I get any - normal lovely service has now resumed, I played 54 holes in the sunshine on Monday with 3 good mates, a swift 18 before the rain set in yesterday and off to play an oceanside ambrose with three crazy Scotsmen in 10 minutes. Congrats mate, shame about the prat you had to beat, but well played
Greens and fairways in the meantime.

Must say, my body just wouldn't take 54 holes in one day, even with a buggy!
Managed to win a charity Texas scramble today, organised by Norwich City FC community sports foundation and ex Norwich player Dean Ashton, all in support of the sporting light appeal.
http://communitysportsfoundation.org.uk/fundraisin...
Shot a gross 63 (-9) as a team which worked out to a net 55.9. We were pretty surprised to win it with that score. Thought some teams would be in the low 50s.
Great format for a fun day out, and bagged, amongst other prizes, an executive box for 10 people at the next Norwich home game!
I think they did pretty well for the charity too as there were 23 teams competing, and lots of extras on the day all going into the pot.

I hit my first tee shot 6 feet.
Did it clear the ladies tee? I also duffed my next tee shot 80 metres, my opponent walked up to me with a smug grin and whispered in my ear "Silly boy", he lost that hole and was 5 down 7 holes later.
Just in from the ambrose, played to par and a win on the 15th, great game with good company.
Duncan:
54 holes is a walk in the park with a buggy, it's walking and dragging a trundler that's tiring.

RE 54 holes - I'm struggling this year with an ankle injury (due an OP) and cannae play more than 18 at the moment, once a week max

At least you're playing Duncan, and it'll only get better.RE 54 holes - I'm struggling this year with an ankle injury (due an OP) and cannae play more than 18 at the moment, once a week max
I reckon from your posts that you're a passionate golfer, maybe consider purchasing a cart, mine does more miles annually than my car and although I'm neither elderly or infirm it's one of the best decisions I've made.

There's no ref Kentlad, as far as I know it's self regulated and the things he did - belching etc - were subtle but timed to annoy me. Yes, he's universally disliked and despite his behaviour I feel sorry for him, winning the champs would perhaps have been his only joy in life.
You're a better man than me! I would have absolutely loved beating someone that had to resort to lets face it, cheating to try to win. Well done on the win!kentlad said:

Had been practicing short game all week and it paid off. 2 putted on 15 holes. Went round in 95. Best score ever. Only my 5th round since starting playing again. Well chuffed. Stablebford score of 39. It is a short course though at a par 69. Need to get on a proper long course to see how good or bad I am.
Looking forward to playing again next week
Also managed to land a ball 6 foot up a tree with my driver

Alright lads, I'm after some advice regarding winter golf shoes if you can help me.
What do you guys use? I love Footjoy and have my heart set on a pair of Dryjoys Casual Spikeless. Is this a good idea given that they're spikeless?
I don't have to worry about waterproof so much as I've got a pair of those (supposedly) amazing Sealskinz socks to wear.

Jinkster - there are tons...try to find one that has compartments for shoes, extra clothes etc. May come in useful! I personally have a Big MAX Houston Travel Bag which can be had for £60 at AG. http://www.americangolf.co.uk/gps-bags-equipment/t... Can't fault it so far & it has wheels which is very handy!
Loudass - always go for spiked in the winter...it's just safer in this country. Especially if you're playing courses that are quite hilly or don't drain too well. An overnight frost can easily leave patches of ice on the course!
