I've got my first lesson booked for Saturday morning and really hoping to get my stance, grip and posture sorted. Is it realistic to do this in one session? (How long is a piece of string etc?).

I played my first full 18 last week and shot 127 which included an abysmal 14 on the first hole! With that in mind I should be able to break 120 which is encouraging me to get out and play more. Hopefully by the end of next summer I'll be breaking 100.

It depends how badly wrong they are! wink

Changing anything in a swing will take time to adjust to, whilst taking care that you are changing things as the teaching pro wants. The more often you can practice the quicker it will feel natural.

Its really important to be able to "memorise" how the changes feel during the lesson and I doubt if the Pro will mind, but try and video some of your lesson so you have a visual record of what posture/set-up changes he wants, and then also video your solo practice so you can compare and adjust anything that's not quite right.

Go myself togged up for the winter season today.

Replaced my stolen FJ DryJoy suit with a lovely Galvin Green suit and bought a new pair of shoes - Footjoy DNA's in black.

Very comfortable. Very expensive. But I got a cracking deal biggrin

Let me know how you get on with the DNA's. They're top of my list to replace my 10 year old Dryjoys..

Ok so in the 4 months since I started playing golf and bought my own set of clubs, I have managed to progress from not being able to hit the ball to scoring 91 in horrendous conditions on the par 3 Castle Course at the Warwickshire.

So a mere 37 over par.

Annoyingly I seem to have started playing half way through the year and missed out on max playing time, but I aim to be competent on a full course next year at least!

Played 18 in them straight out of the box yesterday, they were very comfortable until about the 15th hole when my little toes started to seem a bit sore. I'm sure that's just down to breaking them in though.
Fantastic traction, and feet were as dry as a bone so a thumbs up so far!

Oh, and Galvin Green gear is the nuts. Superb.

Why can't more people learn to play on par 3 courses like yourself! Gets so frustrating being stuck behind someone who can't get the ball in the air for 18 holes. Well done you for being considerate to other players & learning the game before taking on a full 18! I bet you'll break 100 on a full course first time round, if not..then close to it!

I have a pair of DNA's great footwear I've had them about 4 months now only problem I seem to have with them are the spikes I have lost one and snapped another bit annoying but easy to replace with the rite tool, other than being ridiculous light they don’t collect loads of grass and mud like my previous pair of golf shoes so I would highly recommend smile

Was that deal online or at a local Golf shop?

My pro shop. Full GG suit (Acton jacket, Alf trousers) and the DNA's for under £480.00

That's interesting - I've had a pair of Adidas 360 Tour's for about 3 years and never lost/damaged a spike. Will have to keep an eye out for that.

I’ve had two pairs or Adidas Tour 360's and was reluctant to change brand but I didn’t like the new version this time around and like you I’ve never had to replace any of the spikes so I was annoyed when I did on the new DNA's but I'm really happy with the shoes overall and I would buy them again

Doesn't it just!

I was out on my own this afternoon. Several groups let me through, but I caught one group of 3 old boys on the 11th tee. I stood there as the 3rd of them hit his tee shot, and off they toddled. I was behind them for the rest of the day.

I know you don't have a right as a single ball, but I'd never dream of letting a singleton wait behind me.

I wouldn't have minded so much if every time I got to a tee box I didn't have to watch them wander around the rough or drop from a hazard for several minutes.

The real problem is I start to get frustrated and it affects my scoring.

I thought about it on the 11th tee, but thought they'd wave me through soon enough. For the rest of the round I was walking to the tee as they were walking to their balls, and then waiting while they looked for them.

By the 15th I'd given up hoping they'd see fit to let me through.

Still...only 3 shots off my best, and I felt like I played badly. Definitely a "what could have been" round.

Right I've got a 5 club competition on saturday morning. Only a 15 holer too so, as the driver is probably my weekest club at the moment i'm thinking of this;

Rescue / Hybrid thing (good for 200 yards or so)
7 iron (good for 150 - 160)
Wedge
U Wedge (or 56 degree)
Putter

Any thoughts on this?

Hmmm.....

Think I would go with:

20 degree hybrid (like you say, good for 200 yards+)
6 iron (around 165 yards)
9 iron (around 135 yards)
55 degree (around 90 yards, chips and bunkers)
Putter

Actually yeah perhaps clubbing up a little would be better. It's easier to shorten a shot after all.

The wedge is the only one i'd really have to think about. My 'U' is 51 degree but is much more consistent than my 56 degree.

4 wood (most drives, the odd ground stroke)
6 iron and 9 iron (cover most par 3s and approaches)
54 degree wedge
putter

You'll probably find you score very nearly as well as normal. We used to have a 3-club tournament and the scores were surprisingly strong.

I'll probably score better as my second shot won't be off the next fairway!
