Jim! This has been touted before and could well make the sport quicker.

Typically desired by great/good ball strikers smile
I wouldn't say I'm a great ball striker, but I'm certainly a lousy putter.

+1 to the 15 foot ring idea from another crap putter. Maybe this could make golf cool again.

Stop being soft. Putting is what makes a good golfer a great one.
Nothing beats rolling in a birdie or even better an eagle putt.

Putting is all technique with a smattering of confidence

Putting is all in the head. As is golf..... Amazing how even a modicum of self doubt can destroy every last ounce of ability.

Love this comment but disagree, unless you consider reading a putt as technique?

I would actually say that putting is mainly confidence and the ability to read greens, quite an art imo!

It is the ultimate equaliser and I love it, not in until it's in hehe

"Putting is like wisdom, partly a natural gift and partly the accumulation of experience."
Arnold Palmer

There are many different ways to see a line of a putt. Some people can just read greens, it's a simple task for them, others struggle. Adam Scott and a few other use techniques to "read" the line of a putt.

Yes, aimpoint etc.

Nicklaus himself insisted that putting was unlike any other part of the game, even telling of his wife soundly beating him at putting competitions!

It affects better players because they give themselves more putts to miss.

A major hole in my game is not being able to capitalise from my (relatively) good short iron play.

Time and again I'll halve a hole that I was 6' away from in regulation, against a partner who was 25' away in the same.

Ouch.

Where are you missing? pace or line?

What sort of putter are you using?

I'm sure a good putter would criticise both, but I'd say generally length is better than line.

The nice way to put it is to say I'm quite good at sliding it the right distance past!

I've got an Odyssey 2-Ball that I've shortened to suit my, err, concentrated stature. Sometimes when I'm extra disgusted with myself I swap to an old Ping Anser, but if anything that just makes my length worse.

I'm only finding time to play, not practice, so I'm only playing perhaps 36-46 putts a month, so I can't reasonably expect much, really.

Ever had a putting lesson? a shonky grip can cause chaos or even a simple alignment issue.
I'd also consider looking at a putter fitting, knowing the arc of your swing will help limit your misses.

Putting is something you can practice at home, so you can soon rack up the hours honing a new putting style.

dropping a 20' foot putt that follows a read left and right is as satisfying as belting a monster drive straight down the middle.

They are, but non locally to me.

It's a bit of an odd one though. Same as some clubs playing on greens all year and others using winter greens when its frosty.

Had 9 holes today, really focused on my putting and was rewarded with a 39.

15 putts? impressive stuff!

Played today in some pretty intense wind. a 40 point 8, with 36 putts which i was pleased with considering the 4 3 putts i had on the front 9!

Gamed my new SLDR driver today...more fairways than usual but i think that was down to me not the club. the low spin is impressive though...finally driving almost as far into the wind as i do on a still day which is nice!

Best thing about today, i got to play with 3 of my best mates and the sun was shining, love this game!
