Same here - I play between 6 and 10 rounds a week, probably about 350 rounds a year and my handicap came tumbling down, I went from a best round of 105 to a best of 75 in eighteen months, thought I was headed for single figures after a 79 and 75 on consecutive days then it all went wrong about 3 months ago and hasn't come right since so I'm stuck on 14.

My arms and shoulders ache but I just can't stop playing.
You will fly down from the high figures its when you get lower it slows down, even worse when your in single figures.

TBF a lot of people stick at about 13 14 for a while for some reason and then seem to sprint on a bit again.

I used to play loads when I was a kid in the school holls. All day every day at the club then go to work at a driving range at night. I had a great sun tan to biggrin

My advice is don't just play for the sake of playing work on things and try to improve your game while your at it even if it goes bad for a while.

The best and easy way to drop your handicap is to choose the right shots to play. Eg if you cant fade a ball don't try to on the course, don't aim for the flag all the time sometimes your far better off choosing the safe option. So many people choose the wrong thing to do. Its a easy way to knock a few shots off each round.

Americans do golf like nobody else, crazy stuff on there smile
Got that, been on before as a guest but as rain's stooped play I've just signed up (Hi, my name's Cheddar and I'm a golfaholic) - thanks Duncan.

Makes interesting reading on their forums that USA/Hawaii players can easily pay $100/$200/$300 per round - that's what my annual membership costs!

Hi Shrew - well written and I understand what you mean but 'percentage golf' has never been my style, I see pins and I've gotta go for them, I see a 460 metre/500 yd par 5 and I just have to be on the green in two.

I want eagles, albatrosses, holes in one, new low scores and I will set a new course record.

When I was 3 under through 9 holes recently I thought I'd hit 65 through 18 (why not?) and I expect at least a birdie at every hole. Hundreds and hundreds of rounds haven't diminished this.

If I had a quarter the skill of my belief's I'd be too busy at Augusta to reply to this.

As it is I'm a very relaxed golfer, almost completely without a competitive mindset against a playing partner, I just play myself and sometimes, just sometimes, it all comes together and my god it's incredible smile

Even approaching age 50 I drive as long as anyone and I carry 6 wedges PW/50/SW/56/60/64 because I'm usually left anywhere between 50 and 130 metres of the greens on the longer par 4's and don't need a 6/7/8 iron.

But I'm incredibly inconsistent (I shot a 75 followed by a 106 one day apart) a bit like crazy John Daly - which is what my mates call me.

Right now I'm watching Bubba Watson live firing massive drives down the Augusta fairways and throwing away his lead, brilliant stuff.

Sorry for this endless post drivel - the course is closed because of rain and the GolfWRX forum takes 8 hours to register me.

Thanks for your help, how's your game Shrew?

Check your locker room for any memo's regarding these shoes, some courses prohibit them.
Any particular reason, or just the styling?

Doubt it'll be a problem at my local courses. None if them are all that formal.
Yep - I've seen 2 courses recently that have big signs up in the pro shop and locker room saying these shoes must not be worn.

PB of 91 for me today, which I'm disappointed with as I had a disaster on the 4th and took 10.

The big difference is the distance off the tee with the new driver. I struggled to hit my old one more than about 240. A couple of times today I hit it a genuine, GPS tracked 290. I'd be calling BS on that figure if I hadn't seen it for myself.

I was leaving PW or sometimes SW into greens that I used to take a 6i or 7i into.

If I could hit an iron off a tee into a par 3 I'd be laughing. I'm considering putting the ball on the floor and playing it like a normal fairway shot. I never make a clean contact off a tee. Drivrs me crazy.

Also very impressed with the Wilson DX2 soft balls I used for the first time. Clearly quite long but feels like a much softer ball when putting and chipping.

I've subscribed to his channel only 3 days ago. I'd love a few lessons from him. His golf equipment reviews are really good as well.

Well first medal of the year today.....and it didn't go to plan.

I had a 91...nett

So I shot a round 100! Abysmal for a 9 handicapper and I don't know what happened frown couldn't get the ball in play properly then went chasing bogeys, lost balls (5) went in the water (2) and missed tap-ins (4).

Always next time I guess, think I was just chasing it after leaking one on 2 then loosing a ball just of the FW on 3...probably up to 8.7 now as I doubt 91 nett is in the buffer!

Congrats on the PB smile.

Two things:

A new dog cannot add 50 yards! I can only assume you were hitting the ball extremely well today, and that 'everything came together?

Secondly, I tee the ball as if it is the 'perfect lie' on a par 3. Put the tee in all the way down, and just balance the ball on top smile.

Yeh he's great. If I'm ever near Exeter I'll be sure to have a lesson or 2 with him.

I don't mean this in a nasty way at all, but as a beginner to this game, it cheers me up slightly (because I'm rubbish) knowing that even brilliant players like you with a low handicap have bad games every now and again.

Thanks smile

The dog didn't add 50 yards on average. I'd say I averaged about 220 with the old one. Max of around 260 on a good day. Today was probably somewhere just short of 250 average. I was also using a harder ball which I think was carrying further.

The two really big drives I hit were just perfect contacts, and probably a little wind assisted.

As for the tee thing....I do the same. All
The way down so it's as if the ball is balancing on top of the blades of grass. Skim the grass and I should hit it well. I've no idea why I can't seem to make good contact. I think it's a mental thing, making me anxious to look up. For whatever reason I feel more comfortable hitting the ball from the fairway.

Evening all. I was wondering if anybody had any pointers for a software programme for checking my society score cards? One where I can just input each payers shots and get a stableford score at the end. Cheers.

My game doesnt exist any more frown I played 2 rounds last year.

I just dont have time, certainly dont have the time i used to put in to be any good so when i do play gets me frustrated.

Being relaxed when your playing is a good thing and will be a advantage to you when things are not going so well.

Sounds like you are loving it whatever your doing biggrin

True, they happen to everybody...my course is quite tight so if you don't get it in play you're punished!

I was never too far from the fairway but the ball would hide and loose itself in the rough, never to be found when it normally would be. That and the multitude of trees that I ended up under.

After hitting a few bad holes you try and chase birdies to get yourself back in and just play worse, I'm blaming the furniture lugging I did on Saturday hahaha - that and the fact I normally play stableford with at least 1 blob!

Am playing more golf and my next investment is a golf trolley. Like choosing clubs, this is doing my head in. Not interested in electric / powered, so looking at pull carts only and they range from £25 to £700 (yes £700 http://www.americangolf.co.uk/gps-bags-equipment/p... and I honestly don't know what goes into choosing. My only requirement is something that folds down fairly compactly. I went into local american golf on saturday which was a mistake as it was just so busy I couldn't get any member of staff's attention for the 30 mins I was there and I can't make it during the week, so over to you guys. Budget around £100, and at that price point, there's hundreds!

Help?
