Seve blades, '97?
Nice collection - one day it'd be nice to think I'll be hitting blades....
To be clear, my use of blades / MBs is no real reflection of my golfing ability!!Nice collection - one day it'd be nice to think I'll be hitting blades....
I just think they're gorgeous looking things and I much prefer looking down at neat, compact clubhead and a thin top line. To my eye, other clubs look cumbersome and clumsy.
I don't really agree with the whole blade / MB Vs. CB thing; if you hit the ball well then it makes no odds what you hit it with, if you thin/fat/toe/heel it then the outcome is deserved, IMHO anyway and you shouldn't be able to get away with it. That's golf!
After surgery in December I hit balls at the range for the first time since Sept '12. Have a round coming up next Friday and figured I had better swing the bats.
1. My son has worn the grips down to be smoother than a slippery maidens thigh
2. 75 balls at the range left me unable to move quite a few bits of myself this morning.
Having said that, getting my knee fixed seems to have improved my follow through, perhaps I have just forgotten how I used to do it....badly.
Plenty of time to remember those bad habits cured only by buying new gear and hitting it harder!

I won the nearest the pin competition on Saturday...
...then 5 putted.
You cannot win the nearest the pin in our society unless you par the hole or better! There is no pride in a nearest the pin if you cannot par the hole!...then 5 putted.
Mind you, we've all missed from a few inches!
That sounds like a harsh society rule Fats, nearest the pin is nearest the pin. Its almost better when won through some 28 handicap fluke than another great 8 iron from a 3 handicapper.

I won a bottle of wine for the NTP but will have to pay a '5 euro fine' on the annual trip to Portugal. Despite all this I still managed to win my singles match and knock out the vice captain so I'm happy.

It is harsher when playing in Myrtle Beach, or Scottsdale, and the greens are 100 ft wide, and the rule still counts!Same same for everyone, and to be fair it is very rare that this rule is invoked in the UK in society days. I can't honestly remember the last time it happened.
/\ Those old Mizunos are gorgeous.
Anyone else heard of or followed the Slicefixer / Dan Whittaker teachings on youtube and Golfwrx ? Basically its a simple pivot based swing method that uses a lot of Hogan's fundamentals. I'm a few months into learning the setup and backswing - lots of half shots (9 to 3 shots) learning how to synchronise the arms to the body and get lots of leverage into the strike.

The real test is when I take it out onto the course but I'm really pleased with the progress so far.

Bugger!
Oh well, got a pretty good deal on the JPX Pro.
To be fair, making the longest iron in your bag even more punishing than the rest may not be the best way to improve confidence / lower scores!? Oh well, got a pretty good deal on the JPX Pro.
Further to my earlier post re. the MP33s, 37s and Ryder Cup edition irons that I already own...I've got my eye on another set...but this is definitely the last...

Lol - I think you're right. I've not played blades before, I'll stick with a cavity Further to my earlier post re. the MP33s, 37s and Ryder Cup edition irons that I already own...I've got my eye on another set...but this is definitely the last...

Complete newbie to the sport and have a block of lessons booked.
I've been at the range today confusing myself, can someone explain the correct ball position with various irons and woods?
Thanks

This diagram probably explains better than I could but essentially, the ball position doesn't really change as the bottom of your arc will always be in the same place (just further away as the club gets longer (the driver is slightly different as impact should be just after the bottom of your arc)) but your back foot / stance adjusts according to the club you're using...
Just a quick update about my first handicap. Spotted on the notice board, I'm now playing off 18! Pretty damn chuffed with that, at the back end of 2012 I'd never even swung a golf club before and was repeatedly ripped into by mates about my lack of natural ability and poor swing. I'm now lower than any of them!
Perfect day for golf yesterday, and it fell on our society day. This society has been running 10 years now, so handicaps are pretty accurate, and all regular golfers.
Take a look at the scores - http://www.letournoi.co.uk/?page_id=1686
A really good course, and very cheap, but so tight. A real test for a golfer. Highly recommend Rusper golf club for those in the South East.

Had a fair game yesterday...
Couldn't put for toffee (missed a good 5 semi-tap in's) but managed a 79 for a round of 10 over...
Most annoying this is i was playing my brother at full handicap matchplay, I got 9 shots on him at full handicap...(he's +1) despite never being down, going 3 up, back to level and then to 3 up again I halved the bloody game!
