Mrs Lard accompanied me to the range today, so I got her to take a quick video of my swing.

Anybody care to pick it apart and give feedback? I'm not really sure what I'm looking at. It's the first time I've ever seen my swing on video and I'm quite surprised how short my backswing seems.

Sorry Lard, I'm not one to comment on other peoples' swings! Although yes, your back swing is very short.

Someone more qualified needs to advise you biggrin

Had a lesson Saturday. My god, if only I could take my tutor on every round with me, I'd be a pro in no time wink

He watched and filmed my swing, long story short, on my back swing I was straightening my right knee and in turn lifting my right hip up. This was making me over stretch on my back swing and then "mad axeman chop" on my through swing and thus top the ball when I was striking.

So with keeping my knee bent 90% of my shots then were superb. Lots of lift and I was hitting around 180yds with my 6 iron.

Love the game again now biggrin

Won a Cleeveland 888 60 degree rescue wedge yesterday for £26, so hopefully that'll come by Thursday when I'm next playing.
Funnily enough secured myself a 60 degree (5 degrees of bounce) Mizuno MPR-12 wedge today.

Needed one with less bounce - my course is super firm and tight! Old 12 degree bounce Cleveland going in the garage for a while!

Hmmm - I was thinking the same thing. Alas - I have decorating to finish off on a tight schedule and so cannot do it tonight.
The decorating can wait, when the weathers like this it should be illegal NOT to play laugh

Plus ive a new app to try out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com....

Anyone else used it?
Not tried that one but I do have Golf Shot:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com....

And I have to say well worth the £20.

He wouldn't have won it, anyway.

If he were wise he'd take the rest of the year off (which may well happen anyway) and get fully fit for next season.

Is anyone here a member of an online golf handicap club or could recommend one?

I'd like to get a handicap so I can play some Championship courses. I used to play off 12.7 years ago when I was a member of The Vale, Bishampton, but can't justify paying for full membership for the 6 or 7 rounds I play a year.

Google search throws up http://www.myonlinegolfclub.com/Default.aspx

Anyone a member of it? Are they fully recognised? Anyone been refused course entry with one of these certificates??

All thoughts welcome
Cheers

Had half an hour with the club pro last night, followed by 9 holes.

An immediate improvement! Much cleaner strikes with irons = straighter and longer. Lovely penetrative ball flight.

Playing 18 holes in the morning smile

What was the issue / tweak??
Hand position at address - my hands were too far back behind the ball. Also, I was breaking my wrists far too early.

This resulted in me increasing loft of clubs by opening the face.

Now that he's pointed it out it was stupidly obvious!

Shot 89 this morning, pretty pleased with the tweaks I've made to my swing.

Played again yesterday morning. Probably a bad idea as it was my Dad's 60th party the night before, so I was slightly hungover and I had only 3.5 hours sleep!

However, managed to shoot 94. This did however include 4 triple bogeys and a quadruple bogey 9 hehe

Still managed 32 points playing off 18, even with those 5 blobs.

Also notched up 6 pars, 4 bogies and finished it off nicely on the 18th with a birdie.

I agree - if you're shooting 115 then you're probably not hitting clubs consistent distances anyway.

Much better spent on a few lessons.

Agreed!

My second shots have improved greatly over the last few weeks - and I'm now shooting in the 80's again with the occasional birdie!

Going down the club for a quick 18 holes tonight, get my last card in for my handicap.

Then I'll go home and watch the Masters with a cold beer! Life is sweet! smile

You know what? Same happened for me!

I think the rush to get down there, then to have to play with an idiot who had never met = horrendous front nine.

Pulled it together for the back nine, thankfully!

Hey Duncan, I'm a bit obsessive, too!

I actually think I've over-golfed this month. I've played 3 rounds in 6 days, and it'll be 4 rounds in a week come tomorrow.

The first 2 rounds were pretty good - 89 and 94 (in wet and windy conditions). but last night I fell to pieces and couldn't hit a ball on the front 9. Rescued it a bit on the back nine (44) but still shot 100.

I think it was the rush from work - just wasn't relaxed enough.

As for the balls, I'll keep an eye out for some of those. I'm normally a Callaway man when it comes to balls but I won a dozen Titleist DT Solo's a few months ago so have been playing them and they seem pretty good.

I'm just waiting to get my official handicap but I'd like to think I could get to 13/14 by the end of the summer. Single figures next year maybe!!!!

Check your locker room for any memo's regarding these shoes, some courses prohibit them.
Any particular reason, or just the styling?

Doubt it'll be a problem at my local courses. None if them are all that formal.
Yep - I've seen 2 courses recently that have big signs up in the pro shop and locker room saying these shoes must not be worn.

Also very impressed with the Wilson DX2 soft balls I used for the first time. Clearly quite long but feels like a much softer ball when putting and chipping.
Long off the tee - SOFT AROUND THE GREENS!! hehe
