Do any of you watch 'Playing Lessons' with Holly Sondero?

Firstly, to save you googling, no, her boobs aren't real and once you've got passed that stage you'll pick up some of the most helpful tips from the pros that appear on her show I've ever come across. Every episode has 3 or 4 great tips - trust me you'll want pen and paper ready.

Last episode, Matt Kuchar and soft hands: We've all been told to use 'soft hands' (ie: not grip the shaft too tightly) but do you actually put it into practice? Yesterday I did and not only did I swing more easily but the ball was straighter and longer than normal, it's the most effective 'fix' I've ever used and I combined it with Kevin Streelman's tip of always playing one club bigger than normal and always putting to go above the cup - what a difference ! !

After 15 holes I was sitting on 61 strokes playing off an 18 handicap, pars on the last 3 holes would have given me a 2 over round of 73 - yes, yes, I blew out on the last three and ended up with a 9 over 80, still 9 under handicap though.

Oh, one last thing - balls:

I've used everything except Pro V's (I tend to lose a lot and they cost £££) but I was given a dozen well used Pro V1's and no other ball has come close for feel, consistency, extraordinary backspin and amazing durability - forget new ones, if you lose a lot then pick up some cheap used ones (I now pay 30p each used vs £4 each new) and give them a try smile
She is stunning. Americans do love a glamorous presenter

If you like Pro V's there should be some good deals to be had on Taylor Made Lethals now (there is in the States) the newer TM ball is out.

I'd challenge anyone that isn't on tour to be able to tell the difference if there was no markings on them.

Had my best round of the year last night (i've only played 8 times so it wasn't difficult to beat my over awful rounds) hit a 76 on a par 68 course playing off the whites. the course was very generous though and on a couple of holes i was hitting approach shots from parrallel fairways where on other courses i'd have been OOB. i did miss 3 birdie puts from within 12 feet but finished with a birdie on the 18th to tie our match which was a nice way to end the round.

it's the thing that keeps bringing you back to the game as not many things are more enjoyable than playing well on a nice summer evening. no doubt my next round will be 100+ in the rain

I'm seriously considering purchasing a new set of irons along with 4 of the Scor wedges.

I'm having a fitting session on Friday evening (hitting all TM clubs, Titleist AP1/AP2, Ping i25 and a Yonex offering).

At the moment I'm thinking of buying 4,5,6,7,8,9 in which ever iron I choose and then complimenting this with the relevant Scor wedges (probably something like 46, 50, 54, 58 depending on the iron lofts).

Does anyone have any experience of the Scor system?

I spoke to Barry at Scor last night and he was a really nice guy and he's coming back to me today with the best price he can do for me including delivery from the States.

I was interested in these until someone I work with mentioned he tried them and they have zero bounce. The clever sole doesn't work well at all in our wet, soft conditions in the UK apparently frown

Hmmm.... that's not what I have read. I have read that they have between 3 and 7 degrees of bounce.

Suits me fine - my links course is very firm! And even in the wet the fairways are tight.

I will do some more research!

In fairness there are some glowing reviews from this country, including Rick Shiels who has a review from October on YouTube:

Hi guys,

I am looking for some guidance on what clubs to buy, I have recently decided to take up golf more, I currently have an old set of Dunlop clubs from sports direct.

What are the best set of irons for around £250, I will use my current driver and 3 wood until I can afford to replace them.

The best thing to do is head to your local shop and hit lots of different clubs from lots of manufacturers I wouldn't say any particular set if irons are best as whats good me might be completely wrong for you.
try getting custom fit if you can alot of shops will do this for free if your buying there clubs

do this, then i'd say get onto golfbidder once you know what clubs you prefer & get yourself a used set for 1/4 of the price! great website for slightly used irons, drivers etc. as you're starting out i'd recommend looking at Pings - G15's are pretty cheap now and are very forgiving!

What's Golf bidder like? Anything to be wary off or see what they gave and then google for reviews and take your pick?

I know a few people who've bought their clubs from golf bidder and as long as you stick to the ratings (i.e used, like new, heavily used etc) then you can't really go wrong. They're a legit company who specialise in second hand clubs.

Had my first round of golf for a good month and a half yesterday...talk about disappointed with how i played...105 on a par 71..bearing in mind i hit a 79 there about two months ago! Still, had a great laugh with my mate...who know playing that badly could be so much fun?! And managed to chuck a monster 320 yard drive off the 18th tee and bang into the middle of the fairway though, which was pretty satisfying!

Righty-oh.

After an hour and a bit hitting several irons, I have come away with the Ping i25 and the Taylormade Tour Preferred CB to try and choose between.

I think the Ping has the edge, but I need to spend the next week or so hitting them both to decide!

Have you got them on loan?

Yeah, my club pro just gave them to me to use for a week or so.

They are both roughly my spec - 1/2" long, stiff, 1 degree upright.

Once I've decided which I prefer I'll have another fitting session.

Didn't like the TM SLDR, TM TP MB or the Titleist AP2's.

Last 4 rounds have been;

103,
106,
108,
105.

So at least I'm starting to be consistent... Consistently rubbish.

I was shooting much more, but since giving up trying to use the driver I'm normally not in as much trouble off the tee. Really ruins yours game taking every second shot from knee deep rough biggrin

I'm going to sell my R11s driver and buy a TM mini driver instead.

Has anyone on here got one? How have you got on with it?

Looking at joining a club now as well. Played all my local ones (apart from one which I'm playing next week) and one stands out above the others.

£500 joining fee and £1100 per year fee's. Terribly addictive and expensive game this!
