I'd say try the Pro V1X - not as soft so shouldn't grip as much?
I think I'll try this Rosscow, I'm playing a round with my greenkeeper on Friday, he's a scratch player and you've reminded me that he mentioned using harder balls for softer conditions.
Hey Cheddar, hopefully the greenkeeper will help as you shouldn't have to change balls because of this smile

Thanks Duncan - he's a great coach and as long as the forecast for snow today doesn't materialise I'll report back.

Help. I'm improving slowly. My swing is getting better but I'm topping slicing the ball when on the practice mats or ground. Off the tea with irons it's ok. Ideas

Keep your head down, don't sway, swing from inside to out and make sure your feet are pointing in the same direction as the club face (preferably at your target!!)

You are probably hitting on an outside to in swingpath, with an open club face. SLICE.

You need to try and hit on an inside to out swingpath, and hopefully hit a nice draw.

Very good Rosscow.

Also try one or all of these.

Slow your swing speed down - it lets your arms catch up with body, closes the face and it'll probably fly just as far.

Stand closer to the ball.

Tee the ball up at your front foot.

Aim right, it encourages you to 'come round' (someone on here - Rosscow? - taught me that)

Keep your head and chest down, 'coming up' out of the shot often puts you on your back foot and opens the face.

if you haven't done so already anyone looking to improve needs to get on a swing simulator my coach put me on flight scope using something attached ti my driver and an ipad the results really open your eyes to whats happening, club path, open or closed face, swing speed amongst others what a great piece of kit.

Pretty average this morning, shot 90 and scored 32 points.

Putting was terrible, really need to sort that out! Pushing some putts 6' past. Poor.

Address the ball facing the right hand side of the fairway, sounds mad and a bit scary, especially as you're already driving it right but it encourages a draw shot, try it.

Woke up today and decided to see what was on offer on Tee Off Times. Saw the PGA at the Belfry was on offer for £40 instead of £80 so booked it. Thought it was strange that I never received a confirmation email but carried on to the course anyway.

Long story short, turned out that Tee Off Times never booked us in and the PGA was now fully booked.
Was about to leave as we didn't want to play The Derby when the chap behind the counter said he'll just have a word with the manager.
Came back and he said if you're willing to pay another £20 each we'll let you play The Brabazon as it's pretty empty!

So we did.

Wow. What a course. It was simply magnificent.

I went round the front 9 in 49 and I shot 105 overall (still a beginner) and to top it off I found 4 Pro V1's in mint condition!

Anyway chaps on to my next dilemma.

I've had a short list of 5 courses near to me where I'd like to join. I've got it down to my final 2 but I can't decide.

Course A - Where I've been having my lessons.

Never met members/people like them in all my life. So friendly, everyone stops to say hello and ask how you're getting on etc, they even treat me like a member even though I'm only having my lessons there.
They've always got something going on socially also. BBQ nights, singers, bands etc, the club is regarded widely for its social scene.
The course itself though, I was a little underwhelmed by. Only 2 par 5's, and the par 3's were not really that interesting.

Course B - I played last friday, was the last one on my list.

Made up of 3 9 holes. The course is simply stunning. The par 4's are very long though and the par 5's even more so. I don't hit the ball particularly far so I did struggle a bit.
The members are no where near as nice as course A and it's a bit more expensive to join. Not sure about the social side but they have quite a few european tournaments there.

I really can't decide. My heart is saying A but my head says join B. Since playing B I can't stop thinking about playing there again.

Which would you pick?

I'd say A as well, don't underestimate how much a good bunch of members and 19th hole activities can add to the overall experience, especially as a beginner.

Conversely, a bunch of members with their heads up the arses can be awful, the last course I was a member at in the UK was awesome (Ryder Cup venue waaay back when) but the old boy brigade were a bunch of s.

Yeah,I'd say A. At least for a couple of years and then maybe if you up your game join B later on.
