I think sometimes you just have a bad day!

I played with my new society on Saturday - came 4th with 38 points. Mind you, course was very short and my handicap generous (they have me playing off of 26 until I put 3 cards in, 1 more to go). Shot 86.

I'm also going to a local club that I've been on the waiting list since last year tonight to see the secretary, hopefully I'm in......
Played Saturday - and had 44 points in really strong winds - and I couldn't putt for toffee. Made 4 x 3 putts, and didn't sink a single putt over 2 foot! Strange old game. Also one of my mates had a hole in one, second one I have seen a mate have in my 4-ball in the past year!

Purchased a new putter yesterday (one I have been looking at for a while) as my putting really has gone off the boil in the past 3 months. I think a change can be as good as anything. Will see how I get on.

So reading your next post - what club have you joined?

Rye Artisans GC - linked to Rye Golf Club.

We play the Jubilee Course but as I mentioned above we get to play the Old Course several times a year as well.

Looking forward to getting involved smile

Yeah, it's a seriously tricky links course - and it's super traditional!!!

£125 a round green fees for the Old Course, but ridiculously hard to get on unless you know a full member.

Alas I wouldn't be able to get you on the Old Course yet, if ever...... I really don't know how it all works yet.

You could play the Jubilee Course though.

2 balls or foursomes only - as I said, very traditional!! smile

Well, it's not a full 18 but it's more than a 9 hole course.

I think currently there are 11 greens and 14 tees - but there are I believe 2 new greens going in this year, and an extra tee.

The beauty of it is that membership is limited to 70 places - and apart from competition mornings it's quite unusual to see anyone else on the course! I played a couple of times with a member last year - it really is like having your own private course.

Sounds interesting. I would be keen come the summer months to have a round. Typically I can get away with late afternoon rounds, and that sounds perfect!

Jealous of the playing. Not so much of the watching.

I love golf, I love watching it on TV, and the Ryder Cup for me is the pinnacle of sport, above The Ashes, above The World Cup. Is just superb.

BUT........ I do not like being at the course watching golf. I have tried before, been to a couple of the matchplays at Wentworth, been to London Club, and been to Royal St Georges to watch different comps. However it is not for me. I just find myself walking around wishing I was playing.

Each to their own, and I was invited to Ryder Cup this year to watch on corp tickets, but I declined - as I would rather follow it and see all the action on TV.

I generally agree, however following Darren Clarke round Royal St George's on the 3rd day in 2011 was brilliant (apart from the weather!!).

Also went to see the Open at Royal St. Georges in 2003 and followed Tiger around - it's something that I like to do when given the opportunity.

I certainly wouldn't be making a long trip to watch a golf competition - although I nearly went for tickets to the Ryder Cup this year but decided against it in the end.

Mrs Lard accompanied me to the range today, so I got her to take a quick video of my swing.

Anybody care to pick it apart and give feedback? I'm not really sure what I'm looking at. It's the first time I've ever seen my swing on video and I'm quite surprised how short my backswing seems.

Played the course in late 2008 (I think)...I wasn't really that impressed tbh. It just looked and felt like any "new" course, lakes and water hazards like any other run of the mill, modern course and set-up for target golf over traditional Scottish links/parkland type shot making. Having played the Queens and Kings course over the same weekend, I'd put the Centenary behind both in terms of golfing challenge and fitting in with Scottish golf traditions. I did read (again a few years ago) that a number of holes had been significantly re-designed, so hopefully it has the "feel" of a good Scottish course by now.

Had a lesson Saturday. My god, if only I could take my tutor on every round with me, I'd be a pro in no time wink

He watched and filmed my swing, long story short, on my back swing I was straightening my right knee and in turn lifting my right hip up. This was making me over stretch on my back swing and then "mad axeman chop" on my through swing and thus top the ball when I was striking.

So with keeping my knee bent 90% of my shots then were superb. Lots of lift and I was hitting around 180yds with my 6 iron.

Love the game again now biggrin

Won a Cleeveland 888 60 degree rescue wedge yesterday for £26, so hopefully that'll come by Thursday when I'm next playing.

Sorry Lard, I'm not one to comment on other peoples' swings! Although yes, your back swing is very short.

Someone more qualified needs to advise you biggrin

Funnily enough secured myself a 60 degree (5 degrees of bounce) Mizuno MPR-12 wedge today.

Needed one with less bounce - my course is super firm and tight! Old 12 degree bounce Cleveland going in the garage for a while!
