Thought I'd create a new thread for this years golfing shenanigans.

In the pro world, the Blue Monster looked horrendously tricky last night on Sky Sports. Everyone was putting it in the water and that strong breeze really played havoc.

Hunter Mahan has put on a few pounds, and Dustin Johnson looks pretty impressive.

In the real world I'm playing my first round since December tomorrow and I can't wait.

Before that I'm going down the club this afternoon to have my putter length reduced and have a new grip fitted.

Really looking forward to golf this year smile

Have joined a new society and so far have 18 competitive games in the diary, plus the usual casual games.

I'm looking forward to this season. Finally getting my ass in gear, having lessons and getting my swing back to where it was in 2005. I've bought a new driver and 3 wood (Callaway Razr Fit Extreme) and so far they feel fantastic, the driver comes off the face with hardly any spin and goes 15 yards further than my old one. My irons will do for this season (MP32's) but will change them around crimbo ready for next year.

Bring on the warm weather!!!!!

We're 3/4's of the way through the main season here, it starts getting too hot around May.

Club Champs is in 2 weeks time, determined to put in a perfomance, have a realistic chance of winning it if I can string 2 rounds together.

Not much in the way of new gear recently apart from changing from the original Covert Performance driver to the Covert Tour 2.0, loving it, a real fairway finder!

Scored 30 points yesterday, not bad for first round of the season smile

New putter grip/length felt much nicer.

A good win for Patrick Reed last night - he looks a real talent. Only 23! Could do with losing a few pounds though.

Played my third round of the year yesterday with mixed results (slightly better than the second round but strangely, not as good as the first!) and hoping to get a couple more in before I head to Devon for a golf break with 20-odd others...should be good!!

Sounds good! Group golf weekends/holidays are brilliant.

We're heading to Le Touquet for the weekend at the end of May - I can't wait!

Before that, I've joined a new society this year and the first game is a week on Saturday so I'm hoping to squeeze in 9 holes and a couple of seasons at the range/putting green before then.

No way?! hehe

I'm prone to the fairly occasional 3 putt, but I've never managed a 5 putt! Top effort biggrin

Played probably my 8/9th round of golf this year on Saturday. 85 after hitting the club house roof on the par 4 18th & going OOB, finally getting down for 8 after the drop & still scoring 35 points! Pretty happy with that...Even happier that my last 5 rounds in strong wind have been more or less on handicap (14) & i've broken 80 twice! Roll on the summer & a few calm days...

Quick Question for anyone....me and a few friends are organising a golf trip and we have a nearest to the pin prize & an overall stable-ford winners prize..but we need a losers prize. for whoever finishes with the lowest overall stable-ford score....any ideas?

Do you want something really crap that everyone can have a laugh about or a semi-genuine prize??

A voucher for a lesson might not be a bad idea!?

This is a good idea, your mate will probably feel pretty rubbish if they don't perform. Depends on the person i guess, but a voucher for a lesson is a top idea!

Decided to replace my old 17 degree hybrid that I've never really got on with, with a 3 iron.

Found a brand new Mizuno JPX 800 Pro with stiff shaft on eBay for £35 delivered - done!

See how I get on with that.

Only started playing golf a little over a year ago, joined my first club last summer. Probably rather stupidly I didn't put any cards in to gain my handicap, possibly due to wanting to an ability of being able to get around a course first. Handed 3 cards in now so just waiting to find out my first handicap. Any idea how long it usually takes and how I'll be informed?

Is your club a member of http://www.howdidido.co.uk ?

My last clubs have been, you register and log on and you can see all the scores/results/handicaps, etc.

What scores did you put in?

Well, had my first proper round out on Sunday, i even dusted the shorts off!, doing a friendly matchplay with a friend and it didn't start too well...

Topped a 5 iron of the first tee in front of everybody (Sundridge Park East) and then topped the second before tugging the third and putting the fourth into the green side trap...somehow holed the bunker shot for a bogey to halve the hole, he wasn't happy.

Thankfully things improved from there and despite the greens being awful and my golf being worse I somehow managed to control the tops/hooks by just aiming left and intentionally pushing it, an 8 over front 9 and about 5 over on the back, shame I used my handicap halfway but still only lost on the last...

To next week!

I am considering taking the 52* gap wedge out and putting the 3 iron back in as I rarely use the gap (preferring to punch a wedge) and the gap up top from the 17* hybrid to 4 iron is a little too big!

Just checked and we are members but none of my details are showing yet.

I put 89, 90 and a 94 in. Last three rounds I've played, any idea what handicap I'll be looking at?

I'd imagine you'd be something like a 19 or 20, depending on your course par.

I'd be more than happy with that. I've shot lower scores than those in the past but didn't have the cards any more. Should give me a chance in some comps! I worked out from my round on Sunday that if I was off 18 I'd have scored 37 points so anywhere around there will do for me!
