can anyone answer this for me,

Nowell wears a scrum cap,
Nowell plays winger,

since when did wingers get put in the scrum and need scrum caps?

but then again 1/2p wears one but he doesn't look as much a fanny and seems to get stuck into a ruck.
Wearing a scrumcap makes you at least 20% better and faster as a winger.

FACT!

ETA; Oh look - England's obviously best centre scores a try when they finally pick him. Who would've thought?
Calm down...they are playing against woeful opposition that have a lot of heart. He'll get his chance against proper sides soon enough.

He had his chance in the Six Nations and was really good, but then they inexplicably reverted to a league convert with minimal experience partnered with an absolute donkey.

I say all of this as someone who isn't an England fan. You look at Ford, Joseph, Slade, Nowell tonight (albeit against Uruguay) and realise what a total fk-up England made with their selection. They could be in the Quarter-Finals next week...

Even with the endless selection screw ups we were only one kick away from getting out of the group. That stings a bit.

Yup, England could have been top of the group if they'd beaten Australia and Wales. Uruguay could have easily gone through if they'd just won a few matches too. hehe

I know it's all balls and uncles/aunties but fk me - you can't deny this was fked up even worse than 2011.

I have a mate who played in that team and i texted him last week "the only good thing about this world cup is they this team make you bunch of s look a lot better"

Genuinely pissed off.

Although having said all that - both Aus and Wales put in a great shift today and fully deserve it.

Bye bye England. I feel sorry for Lancaster everytime he's interviewed now but ultimately IMO selection before and during the competition did it. I've said it repeatedly under Lancasters time in charge the back row is just completely unbalanced Robshaw at 7 I reckon is less of a problem than not having another carrier at 6. Haskell looked like an over inflated gym bunny tonight and couldn't knock the skin of a rice pudding. Not enough power in his legs.

Like a lot of they players Lancaster lacked that top 5-10% needed at top international level.

It will sting that they'd have gone through if they'd have got that draw against Wales but could have would have should have.

I think if we get the managment team right it's not a Hugh rebuild and should be in the mix for the 6N and then a tour of Australia in the summer.

Look forward to the rest of thr tournament.

Well, my rugby day started with watching our first XV run in their fifth win (and fifth Try Bonus point) out of six matches this season to go top of the league by a single point ahead of three teams all on 24. Looks like being a tight league this year!

It concluded with watching the last twenty-odd minutes of the Wales vs Australia game. I turned on a couple of minutes before the second guy joined Genia in the bin. If that's how the Wallabies can defend with only 13 men on the pitch, and neiher Hooper or Pocock, I reckon we were watching the 2015 World Champions there.

I'm missing something in all this love for Nowell.

Far too often he actively looks for contact rather than trying to keep the ball alive.

I'd far rather see an out and out finisher such as Wade. You can improve someones defence much more easily than their attacking.

That's the problem, England were certainly third best in group A.

England should be qualifying top of a group though, their natural position should be up in the top 4 or 5. England shouldn't be having trouble progressing into the 1/4 finals of any rugby competition. They need to climb up the rankings before the draw for the 2019 World Cup is made or they could easily find themselves in another group of death. The last draw was in 2012 so if that timescale is repeated then the next draw will be in 2016.

Should have 30+ caps by now.

He is going down the sevens route so to save him from that someone needs to call him asap after this debacle.

Chaps - you keep talking about backs as if they made any difference. I still don't understand why you think the backs selection made a single difference to this campaign. England lost up front and didn't just lose against Aus, they got beat up.

I agree that the biggest disappointment is how our pack has become ste.

But everyone likes a winger who can fk about and a centre who can pass one being his back JUST IN CASE the 10 doesn't kick don't they?

refer Guscott and Underwood.

The 1980s rang. The Romanian RFU would like its coach back please.

Ive been impressed with Jonny Wilkinson's punditry particularly his insight and positivity. I can really imagine him having an important part to play in the future England set up if that's where his passion lies. He seems to really want to inspire others, I think England need to get him into the coaching staff as soon as possible.

They won't pay his wages for anything other than the odd appearance here and there.

He is one of the very few earning big money.

I'll have a wager that Wales will end up after the World Cup lower ranked than England. Bonkers

Agree....he's just not dynamic. He runs with a suspiciously short stride....looks ridiculous!
