Brought a tear to my eye too, one of the most amazing gestures of kindness I have ever seen, Sonny doing that reminded me when Muhammed Ali used to do similar things for kids. That incredible lovely kind gesture topped off the magnificent Rugby World Cup for me.

So, a spectator comes onto the pitch when they have been asked not to do so, they are the only spectator to do so and you think they should be rewarded? That incredible lovely kind gesture topped off the magnificent Rugby World Cup for me.
I have got your opinion right, haven't I?
A great tournament indeed, improved by England deciding to bow out early and spare the rest of the world their brand of slow, uninspiring and turgid rugby.
The more I think about it, the more astounded I am that Stuart Lancaster and co were so criminally deluded that they genuinely thought we could pose a credible threat to a team like the All Blacks. Tragic.

As an aside - seeing what the semi-finalists dished up I am extatic that we bowed out early since I suspect we'd see a humiliation had we played the AB's, or indeed the Argies!!!
SBW has been given a replacement medal, great stuff from the RWC people.
Still stoked about it, its a slow monday morning here in NZ in work
The AB's really deserved it, by far the best team in the last 4 years since 2011, only 2 losses, play the best all round rugby, built the deepest squad.
If Oz put in as much effort in the next 4 years as the last 1 they will be a handful come Japan I am sure.
Shame their press are such bad losers tho. The captain was great, but why blame the ref?

Hey monk, did you witness the kid running into the field. Jc just saw it. SBW was 6 feet away from him and he took 2 steps out to meet his hero only to be trampled by a guard. Upsetting to see a big man take down a small boy actually. So close he held his hand out and williams was right there. So much for a field invasion.

Got to say I'm more with the Monk on this; I do agree the security guard was OTT with his response but I'm sure this child wasn't the only one in the stadium who was excited by what he'd just seen - others behaved properly and stayed off the pitch and rewarding someone who didn't just seems a bit strange to me.In terms of the overall competition, the best two teams in the final and the best one won; well done to the All Blacks, we (England) have a fair bit of catching-up to do!

RFU gave SBW a replacement medal at the closing dinner
I really don't know what SBW was thinking about when he gave his original medal away; you've worked hard for years to win the ultimate trophy in world rugby and then you give your winners medal away to some random spectator who's invaded the pitch? I do agree the security guard was OTT and if SBW had checked the lad was ok and then given the guard a few choice words then fair enough; however, to give your hard-earned medal away - and effectively reward the child for his bad behaviour - all seemed a bit bizarre to me. Sent totally the wrong message to the child and far from appearing generous it actually made SBW look a bit of a plank IMHO! Not that Im a religious person much but SBW converted to Islam a few years back and since then has changed very much as a person in terms of his lifestyle and outlook by the looks of things. I don't think the "materialistic" medal meant much to him at this time in his life.
Either way if that was me I wouldn't have ever given it away and would be polishing the damn thing every morning!

Ok although not really sure I see the winner's medal as something materialistic in that sense; it's more an ultimate reward for years of sacrifice and hard work and hence for me it would be a treasured possession for life (and certainly not something I'd give away to a complete stranger minutes after receiving it!). I also wonder what his team-mates really made of it all? The medal was won as part of a collective effort and if I was one of the other All Blacks I'm not sure I'd have been terribly impressed to see one of my colleagues give away such a hard-earned prize quite so easily; if it had gone to a good cause possibly a different matter but to just hand it to a kid who shouldn't have even been on the pitch was pretty poor IMO.... Either way if that was me I wouldn't have ever given it away and would be polishing the damn thing every morning!
The man has explained he 'just felt bad for the kid'. Maybe he got swept up in moment and thinks it was a mistake, maybe not. Regarding his faith, it's probably what kept him out of trouble given his history with drinking and being a bit handy with his fists. So many league players have that mongrel stigma and for good reason.
