So who do we think will be called up to replace Webb and 1/2p, then? My money's on Phillips and Hook, with Phillips leapfrogging the other 2 SH's into first choice for the big games.
All I can say as an England fan is an enthusiastic "yes please" for Phillips!

Definitely Mikey. As for t'other we need a back up boot if Biggar cops it. Which means Hook in my book. But Hook at 10 throws cementball out the window... hehe

There's no way they'll let Hook anywhere near the 10 shirt, surely (unless both Biggar and Priestland get broken). Hook will be covering 15 and if Biggar cops it, Priestland will replace him, probably with Hook taking the kicking duties from 15.

Of course, if you're Colin Charvis, the obvious candidate to replace your scrum half/full back is a blindside flanker! confused

Good point. My loathing of Priestland temporarily ousted him from my mind. He's got a boot as well no?

Yep, but Hook's the better place kicker I reckon. Actually, I think they'd have gone for Anscombe over Hook, but it looks like he's carrying an injury that will keep him out of 2-3 weeks, so that looks a bit of a non starter.

Confirmed that Halfpenny has torn his acl and will be out of rugby for 6 months minimum.

frown

Ffs. Mind you the fact his leg was strapped to buggery begs the question why he was on the pitch in the first place.

I guess you'd rather have him injured just before the WC rather than just in it (from a replacing him quickly perspective)?

I guess but if he'd been left out of the Italy game that's a whole lot more recovery time before the WC. Hindsight eh!

Your assuming he will after being dropped - he may decide it's not for him anymore. ...

Gutting for 1/2p, quality player. I don't think he's been used to his full ability by Gatland, he's lethal in broken field play Ala the final game of the last Lions Tour.

Big blow to Wales I suspect more for his place kicking. Liam Williams is a good player and brings a different dimension, won't change the way Wales play.

ETA

In other news the RFU have said they'd release Lancaster to coach the next Lions tour. A potential hiding to nothing going to NZ for anyone you could see the reasoning appointing a Kiwi such as Gatland the return or Schmidt. I don't think Lancaster would be a bad choice, he seemed to instill an ethic in the England team pretty quickly when he took over, as opposed to Woodward who failed spectacularly who built an ethos over time with England which could never be replicated for a Lions type format IMO.

100% this!

If Phillips is half the man I think he is then he will get MoM!

Webb has also been confirmed as out for the duration, although they've not yet confirmed details of the injury and whether it will require surgery.

I'm slightly surprised by the Eli Walker call up as we've drafted in a non-kicking winger for a kicking full back. I'd have genuinely called in Hook, stuck him at 15 and plonked Liam on the wing. There's even a case to be made for Priestland at full back. Cuthbert's form has been garbage.

Oh well. We'll be lamenting what could have been over a pint of Brain's for years to come.

Our chance once in a lifetime with some luck was last RWC.

Still I'll enjoy brains beer and not worry.

Millennium changing it's name to the 'Principality' stadium for the next 10 years? First I'd heard of that.

I can see when fans get upset at this, fair enough when it's a brand new stadium like the Aviva and Emirates.
