Had a great day at Lords yesterday , atmosphere was fantastic when Jadeja decided to take the bowlers on, who just persisted with a huge serving of buffet bowling.

In the morning when Cook took that fantastic catch the support for him was incredible.
Tension when he took to the middle was high , everybody just hoping for a change around , but deep down , having bets whether or not he would get to 20.

Depressingly, I predict we will lose 3 wickets this morning and be gone by mid afternoon around 100 short, having never threatened the total.

There was huge support for him, and it was obvious that the others were trying to keep him at the non striking end.

He looked very uncomnfortable at the crease.

Root and Ali can do this. The remaining batsmen merely need to work towards a total that Anderson can attack with a quick 80-100

Meanwhile, a result does not change anything, it's gone on long enough: Cook, Prior and Bell should be dropped and Anderson only makes it because of his runs contribution.
Sorry what ?

Anderson took four wickets in the first innings, He bowled 23 overs for 60 runs, the most economical of the bowlers and took the most wickets

In the second innings he bowled 31 overs for 77 runs, 2.65. Ali by contrast bowled a huge 11 overs.

Anderson is being worked like a dog. Mostly because Cook has decieded Plunkett is the impact bowler to be used in short spells. Jimmy has to keep something in the tank because he is bowling around a third of the overs in each innings.

Don't even joke about Jimmy furious

Bell, Cook and Prior probably should all clear out, if we intend to have a new era of English cricket then lets have one.

Captain Morgan, Buttler and Sidebotham for the win

Did anyone catch the Sky stat on Stokes' run of form btw? Horrific. About 10 matches on the bounce all in single figures.

Also, incredible snippet from Simon Hughes in the Telegraph today as part of a wider piece on Cook's captaincy.

Simon Hughes said:
The 107 runs added for those last three Indian wickets on Sunday is about par for the course against England in the last 12 months, during which wickets eight, nine and 10 have accumulated a combined average of 98 runs per innings.

It’s an alarming figure that not just converts a total from ordinary to ominous but also frazzles a captain’s mind when he wants to think about opening the batting.

Good discussion on TMS, with Vaughan (too conveniently) laying the blame Flower, but still recommending Cook step aside for a game or two.

However, I would say: Cook is a grown man, and it seems like too may are treating him like a sensitive teenage nephew. As Boycott said a couple of evenings ago, the 'operators' have gone from complaining that a team can't be based around one person to doing exactly that.
There's far more discussion now on the Clanglers, not forgetting the soup dragon. TMS at its best.

I'll jinx them now.

Good start. If they can be 4 down still at lunch with. 165+ on the board then got a good chance of winning still.

England playing quite well now. If these two hang around until lunch then England are probably favourites.

Btw, anyone catch this stylish chap in the crowd yesterday? laugh

Runs starting to come, half way there.

Could this be the one chase to re write the Lords record books ?

Root three fours in the over.....

AND after he has spent five years growing a chin guard on his neck. You'd think it would able to take the impact.

Nevermind, that batting rocks of Prior, Stokes and Broad will see us home.

And that one moment illustrated the difference good captaincy can make.

I knew England would do this. They haven't even got the decency to just get spanked. They'll tease us, toy with us, give us hope before falling a mere 5 runs short at 6.15 tonight.

England cannot lose from here. Have some faith in your own team. Root and Broad will bring it home.

Would love to have faith but recent experiences make that rather difficult ....

Indeed, Prior can't play any other way, and it would be stupid to try.

He needs to rotate the strike, play aggressive and hope he can stick 30 runs on. If he and Root can get it down to around 90 needed, then it will be close. You can't ask tail enders to chase three figures, they just cant' do it under pressure.

Prior has the capability and class, lets just hope he can ignore his recent form.

I'd be up for promoting jimmy. Batting very well at the moment. wink. Maybe less pressure if he comes in 9 or 10?

Must admit, where the captaincy is concerned I say bring in Morgan. Just want to let root get on with it, and I don't think there are any other suitable candidates in the XI.
