Well that bad Captaincy nearly cost England the game didn't it???!?
Oh wait...no it didn't because the batsmen scored run and the bowlers took wickets. People even caught catches!

....Cook seems to think if he starts getting runs again it will make him a good captain, it won't. A break from cricket won't either, he's been in the England set up for most of his first class career-around 8-9 years now? He's just not cut out to be captain regardless IMO....
Exactly.
I'm expecting the resignation press conference this afternoon.

Cook won't be going anywhere after that result, if England win the series from now he'll cement his position if not he 'might go' but as discussed on here and elsewhere. It's nice to see him back in the runs, and I must admit he was also tactically good today, but it is far too early for him to have prove his doubters wrong. When the pressures back on in a test and seeing how he comes through will be the judge.

India accept DRS or no more test series until you do.

Scoring runs gave Cook a big boost in confidence that spread through the whole team. Improved his decision making too. Elite sport is very much in the head.

Unfortunately there are plenty of people at the BCCI that would be happy to see the back of tests in favour of even more ODIs and T20s.

Come off it, one swallow doesn't make a summer. (though it does make a chap very happy)

When was the last time India won a series in the UK ? I am saying 1986' but happy to be proved wrong.

Cook batted well, led well and in all three areas we were better. But lets all hope Jimmy A stays forever young, he is the class act in the team at the moment, Broad must lie awake at night dreaming he had the same talent.

Well done lads, you are back to winning ways, now find an opener, a proper spinner, another quick and a spare number 5 or 6 bat.

No but 20odd centuries and over 8000 runs do. Yer acting like Chef is a one innings wonder not England chief ton machine. Runs and wickets win test matches...not Captaincy decisions. Cook in form as a batsman is by default a better captain.

Not true, I give and have given on this thread plenty of credit to a guy who will surely be England's leading test run maker before he retires. He batted well, like we know he can.

His tactics were never put under presure in this match, and we know he is a safe pair of hands, who plays the numbers.

But for me, he lacks Élan, flair or a bit of devil. Just doesn't entertain me as a captain, and the side are being made around him.

I like mavericks, showmen and entertainers, Beefy, Flintoff, KP. Swann or similar.

Buttler is about as close we have now. It's just a bit dull. But lets hope we can win a few between now and when the Aussies take us to school again.

You like to be entertained. I like to win. I prefer to see one sided victories of utter ruthlessness committed by a cold blooded executioner. Preferably against Australian cricketers.

Plus ca change. David Boon must be pissing himself laughing. His idea of a level 3 offence would be drinking less than 30 stubbies a night!

Both Jimmy and Jadeja let off.

Hopefully the series can move on from this silly playground stuff now

Much better from England. Had the upper hand in most sessions, and finally a contribution from some of the senior players.
Indian bowling attack looked a bit toothless without Ishant.
Impressed by Moeen Ali - he's obviously worked at his bowling so maybe he can fill the spinner berth long-term?

Looking forward, who is going to be rested this winter? It appears to be solid ODI's until visiting the Windies in April. Will Anderson get a chance to take his boots off for a few months and will Broad be given a chance to sort his dodgy knees?

If they can continue like this, there might be light at the end of the tunnel. Buttler performed better with both gloves and bat than I thought he would, and Ali started to look like a spinner. If Cook can keep the runs coming then it's down to Robson to produce, and for two out of maybe five seamers to stand up and make their case for Australia next summer.

The batsmen need to spend the winter with the bowling machines cranked up to 95mph too....

Good time to get Finn back. Lets give him a go, is Broady fit? Don't know, but I saw Finn at Lords a couple of weeks ago he looked seriously sharp.

Good - I hope he feigns deafness when David Saker tries to speak to him.
