Kids are bored in the hols so want to go kite surfing with them - they are 18, 14 and 11 (but 11 is 14 year old sized)

Anyone recommend a good school on the south coast anywhere (Im in Reading so will have to drive anyway)

Camber Sands have offered a 3 day course - they any good?

And our current ability is - I did a bit of power kite/buggying, 18 year old is a life guard, 11 year old power kites and 14 year old scared he will die. Should be fine yeah??

I learnt with Karl Cadwaller at Learn to Ride in Poole, but having said that, I'd avoid learning in Poole this time of the year, it's just too busy. Even as an experienced rider, you spend your whole time dodging people. When you're trying to get up, it isn't a lot of fun as you keep ditching the kite so you don't hit anyone!

S2AS have places along the south coast.

Check out a few of the kite forums and the BKSA. The smaller the group the better, especially once you're on the water. Most of the kite forums have 'local' sections where you could find recommendations.

Personally I think everyone should learn the power of the kite on the beach or local field whilst standing on the ground before doing the next step to kite surfing.

Buy an old Blade III 4.9m and see how they do in a 10-20mph wind which might be lumpy. If they can control that and do some jumps then they will have good kite control for the next step, and not too much risk.

Having done plenty of kiting I'd rather my kids where kite surfing than jumping around a field with a 5m Blade

Is Exmouth too far? Edge Watersports teach on the Duckpond in the Exe Estuary or out on the sandbar off the front, Poole has loads of schools but as others have said, nightmare at this time of year with other boarders and windsurfers/paddleboarders/kayakers. Also, Poole looks pretty benign, however Panorama Road is a major hazard to beginners, I've seen a few dragged across the road in the last few years either lofted or just poor choice of launch site.

Any IKO or alike course will teach kite handling on dry land before headed to the water and if they don't something is very wrong.
