I hate the final day of the Ryder Cup! hehe
I managed a couple of hours of strimming as soon as the cup was won.

Feeling semi-smug. smile

What a great three days of golf. I hope the Europe bunch don't get too carried away with themselves, it was a close contest and although Watson in hindsight made some picks that went wrong, the Captains are always hostages to fortune.

The Pro's made mincemeat of what is a pretty horrible course. I wish it had been held on the Kings, or a mix of the Kings and Queens. It would have been much harder however to have got all the "money" around them and the number of spectators.

Pleased for Donaldson and sorry for Gallacher, Poulter needs to get his game together and when Rory is on form, my God he's good. Reed has some bottle, Watson was off and Mickleson strangely subdued. Furyk ought to Captain IMO. He looks like he's chewing wasps when the teams losing.

Roll on 2016.

Phil Mickelson and his "One Man Mutiny"

A rather uncomfortable USA press conference after they lost the cup.

I paraphrase hugely but he was asked a question about why things went wrong and he replied that he couldn't understand why they had strayed from the winning formula of Paul Azinger in 2008; things went well that year and they should never have "fixed what was never broken".

Then a journo suggested that was quite a brutal assessment of the present captain (the twelve players plus Tom Watson were in one long line along the table) and Mickelson got all prickly with the journo, saying he couldn't understand why he thought that. Obvious to everyne listening that it was a huge snub to Watson and his captaincy.

Watson probably got under Mickelson's skin by dropping him from Saturday's matches because he "looked exhausted". That would have hurt PM for sure. The US fall out from this defeat has only just started, methinks.

The knives are out for Watson already and its only been finished five minutes. Mickelson was a right in that presser I'm afraid. Absolutely no class whatsoever and clearly still stinging about being dropped.

A real lack of class from Mickelson this week for a few things which he said and supposedly did - the litigation statement before the tournament was not necessary (and unlike him I thought), the petulance and lack of acceptance of Watsons decision not to play him on Saturday (even if if he may well have had a point, you must accept, for the benefit of the team the decision of your captain) and finally his words this evening in the post tournament press conference. He has lost a lot of the respect I had for him after these outbursts.

On the reasons why the US lost the cup - Boils down to three key things really imo. Firstly if you look at the top 3 US point scorers they are the 3 rookies!! The 'big players' for the US just did not turn up in my opinion - Furyk, Watson, Johnson in particular. Secondly, the US were really poor in the fourballs - losing 7 out of the 8 points available to them is not good enough, simple as that really. Finally, as eluded to in the first paragraph Watson obviously lost the team room respect early Saturday morning imo and never retrieved it.

On the flip side McGinley did a great job and the camaraderie amongst the team was clear for all to see!!

A great venue, a great European team performance!! Bring on Minnesota in 2016 smile

Totally agree. I've always like Mickelson; not just his game but the way that he always seemed to take disappointment with a wry smile and lose with good grace, unlike players like Woods for example. However, his behaviour this week was little short of appalling in a sport where the great majority of players display an admirable level of sportsmanlike qualities. He's gone down a lot in my estimation as a result.

I'd forgotten about that litigation statement, good spot to bring it back up. Who knows whether there is any disharmony between GMac and RMac but Mickelson was wrong to try to use it as a tool to get under the skin of the Europeans. He probably ended up doing exactly the opposite as both men seem to be hugely popular within their teams. I can imagine Paul McGinley using it as a motivational tool on the first day.

And as someone else says, all of this happens in golf which has a generally terrific reputation for sportsmanship and grace.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get a whoosh parrot for this but just typing, "Phil Mickelson" into Google brings up loads of links to the press conference (and the fall out).
