Just read that Paul Lawrie was being the rope whilst a bunch of "celebs" got beyond it.

Thats a bit off if you ask me. Some tt from Westlife and Ruud Gullit over a Ryder cup winner and Major winner?

Can someone tell me WTF has a "game plan" got to do with a golf tournament? I thought the game plan was to hit the ball into the hole in as few whacks as possible. Sounds like a fairly simple game plan to me.

This may be a wasted post, but you're wrong, that isn't the game plan in the Ryder Cup.

The game plan is to use fewer whacks on more holes then the other team. Subtly but crucially different.

Can't see what the fuss is about.Firstly Mickleson's comment about litigation was obviously in jest, wouldn't surpise me at all if he made sure both players knew it. If anything it was a dig at the press, who tried all week to make a story out of Rory and G-Mac not playing together (and it must be because of the court case) when it was blindingly obvious there was no problem with their friendship.
As for the comments he made at the press conference,he was asked what Azinger had done differently as the last USA winning captain. He made a point of saying the three captains since had strayed from what worked in 2008(not just Watson),and simply gave an honest answer instead of the robotic stuff we listen to from others. The USA lost because player for player they were slightly weeker, couldn't gel at foursomes and hada captain that quite possibly was out of touch with how the RC has moved on,as alluded to in the studio.
Either way Mickleson's still got a damn site more class than Faldo proved to have this week, and more in his little finger than the tt that shouted out at Reed on the first tee this morning, embarrassing himself, and his own country. If that had been a Yank, we'd be moaning about if for weeks.
was it just me that thought the opening and closing cermonies were rather drab affairs compared with previous ones( and caked with layers of Scottish love-in quotes) and that Di Dougherty's presentation was simply flat?
More importantly there was some magnificient golf played this week, coupled with balls of steel.

There were a couple of reasons why McIlroy and McDowell didn't play together and it had nothing to do with any fallout there was or wasn't. McDowell said before the lineups for the first day were announced that he found that it could be awkward playing with Rory in that format. And also, he added that the dynamic between the pair of them had changed as previously, it had been a sort of uncle/nephew relationship but with McIlroy being number one in the world, that had changed.

Probably also something to do with their RC experience meaning that they could help more players by being apart than by being together. I'd agree about Faldo though; great player but somewhat classless at times.
When I put the bit in brackets in my quote it was sarcastic as to the press making something out of a non story, I just didn't do it very well! The reasons you state for them not playing together bang on.

No problem, I wasn't 100% sure whether you were serious or not.

I heard an interview with G-Mac where he said he didn't want to play 4 balls with Rory... general gist was being >50 yards behind off the tee made him feel like there was no point in him playing.

Not sure there's anyone to blame on the American side... Europe just have better golfers.

I was thinking that the team spirit now in the european game has been well served by the split of the USPGA tour and the European tour.

my point being the americans spend alot of time trying to beat each other week in week out.

most of our lot (CMIIAW) spend most of their time playing against the americans in america and in majors or not against each other due to the split tours?

what i'm trying to say badly is that I think its easier for europe to play together as they spend less time playing against each other???

shot of the tourney, tough one but Rose from behind the tree for me.

Shot of the tournament is a tough one. My candidates would be Fowler on 15 out of the thick rough from circa 225 yds on the Friday evening, Rose' shot from behind the tree/bush and Donaldson's shot on 15 to win the cup, Garcia's 2nd on 16 where he made eagle, Kuchar's holed 2nd shot on the Sunday (can't remember which hole - 8 maybe?). Sooo many to choose from!!! smile

The unknown levels of cool from Kaymer and Dobuisson have been wonderfull.

Leaving his putter in the pisser and it not knocking him and McDowell was ace.
Kaymer is just german and therefore doesnt get the jitters. Clutch player to use an american term.

Id love teh USPGA to say "go on then Phil you captain the team" I think hes make as many mistakes as Watson if not more.

What surprised me was how average Mickelson's Ryder Cup record is.

Despite being a multiple major winner, he compares poorly to Westwood, both of them having played 41 matches.

Mickelson 16-19-6
Westwood 20-15-6
(Win-Loss-Half)

It's possible that his partners have let him down in foursomes, but more likely that his opinion of himself outstrips his abilities in matchplay.

It's mainly because he's pretty bad off the tee and overall not a great putter. He's a very streaky player which doesn't translate well to matchplay...especially in 4somes where his partner in is in the trees from his tee shot and doesn't have his talent to get out of it.

One of my shots of the tournament was Sergios recovery shot to 18 on Friday after Rory had left him in the rough.

5 wood to the back of the green and stopping it dead was awesome control.

Very interesting.

I do feel a small tingling of man-love towards most of our team. GMac - turning that around. Kaymer.... nobody mentions him much. I thought he was a rock.

Can't believe it's two long years away until the next one.

Looks like the Yanks are going for Davis Love as Captain in a shock move. Don't understand this at all.
