Evening,

I got my brother in law for secret santa, the criteria is around £100, he's mad on golf, I know nothing about the sport really so could do with a bit of help, I was thinking something like this

http://www.golfonline.co.uk/im-caddie-dual-voice-g...

Is it any good or can anybody recommend anything else, obviously it's something that he wouldn't normally treat himself to, he's 26 if that makes any difference?

Cheers

26 handicap I presume?

That would be a good present, good choice.

It's not a bad idea, but all the functionality it gives can be used on free smart phone apps.

Maybe a nice waterproof jacket from one of the golf brands?

Having had the pleasure of using a Garmin S4 watch before some runt stole it, I would say that you can't compare smart phone apps with a proper golf GPS watch (or hand held unit).

I'm back on my iPhone app until I can afford a new watch (or father Christmas brings me one!) and I think more now than ever that GPS watches are the way forward.

Smart phones basically take too long and can be a distraction.

The watch is always on, always has a yardage just by glancing at your wrist. They move to the next hole automatically when you reach the tee box. They are more simple. No emails or texts coming through when you're looking at it.

Just a much better experience, if you don't mind paying the extra for it.

I see what you're saying, but it's horses for courses IMO.

I set my phone so that I can unlock it without a pass code while playing, and take it out while walking to my ball. A couple of seconds for it settle on a yardage and I'm ready to go. I play a lot quicker with it than without it.

I just ignore anything else on it while I'm playing. I can see it would be difficult to ignore if you're easily distracted or get important work calls/emails to your phone.

Plus, I hate wearing a watch. It would distract me far more than a phone does.

I love Swing by Swing on my Xperia. I have the phone in my pocket and an NFC tag on each club and my glove. You can swipe the glove on the phone and it will speak the distance to the hole and when you swipe a club then it starts your next shot with that club and stops the previous one. Genius!

I'd echo the lesson suggestion though as during the winter it is a good time to practice IMO.
