I remember reading that conversation at the time and still think that neither of you understood the other's points. A lot of the time you are teaching 'feelings' or 'thoughts', for example telling someone to flip the club in the downswing may help them to deliver the club far better, it doesn't mean they are actually flipping the club, just that they are feeling like they are.

He posted (part of) an interesting lesson tonight for someone:

Hi MFD,

I don't want to come across arrogant but I understood everything he said, just didn’t agree with it.

Would you agree that the guys swing was pretty poor? MC then had him thrust his hips to get the path way out the right, then flip to square = horror lesson imo.

I'm not the only one criticising him on that vid.

His insistence that numbers are all that matter will never sit well with me, and I do believe thatbmost golfers would rather be taught a ground up, technically better swing, than given band aid advice.

All interesting stuff though, and I do like a lot of his work, and find the vlogs with gamegolf interesting.smile

Guys - is there any recommendations for a completely new person (other than the odd lesson 7-8 years ago!) coming into the sport on clubs and equipment to buy? I've seen a few recommendations for the Callaway Strata clubs online and at ~£150 they're quite appealing to wet my appetite with before spending a serious amount of money on the sport, which feels all too easy!
That's the right sort of money, however I'd steer clear of oversized irons, super GI clubs don't benefit anyone imo, better off getter a mid size cavity and learning to play via lessons.

If you're good at studying a book and learning from it, I strongly recommend Stack and Tilt for beginners, higher handicappers smile

Yeah, I enjoy the course vlogs, even though they're entertaining you do pick up a lot of tips on course-management and occasionally rules from them.

Game Golf is something that has really interested me, very tempted to invest if I start playing every week. I'm a data kind of person so the more the better for me.

I also wish the GC2 HMT launch monitor cost a few £100s instead of around £10k

Cheers Duncan, appreciate the reply. If it was a toss up between the Strata's and Wilsons (here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wilson-Profile-VF-Graphite... which would you recommend? I'm not really sure what each set does better than the other, or even if there is anything in it right now!

Got myself booked onto 4 weeks worth of group lessons today though, so will be running through my beginner classes and then into another set of lessons after that.

Just had a look and I think the Wilsons look better value for money, and newer tech.

I'm a Wilson fan too ha ha!

One thing though, what height are you?

I'm 6ft. Would think that I'm just on the cusp of benefiting from playing around with the normal fit of the club's?

Not sure if you've ordered or not? Might be worth looking at a set of say Ping G15's from www.golfbidder.co.uk. Really easy to use clubs, and IMO a lot better quality than a bog standard starter set? Although, you won't get a driver etc!

And if you decide you don't like them...they'll be a lot easier to sell and you'll probably not lose any money on them!

Let us know what you go for!

I played yesterday for the 2nd time this year. Hit 36 points playing off 13. Par 3's cost me. Doubled every single one except the last one! So frustrating as that's usually the strongest part of my game. 9 GIR's on the other holes though! Hit 38 putts too so definitely feel like a lower round is out there. Conditions were absolutely perfect yesterday, not a breathe of wind! Roll on the summer!

Anyone have any low scores this weekend?

Yeah, it felt great! Would have felt even better if I hadn't taken 3 off the tee hehe

We only had time for 12 holes as I had to pick my daughter up from dancing class, still managed 20 points with 2 blobs so not too bad.

I wish I had played yesterday - beautiful day for it.

3 off the tee & stealing a par must be so frustrating wink.

20 points isn't bad through 12....it was such a nice day! best day of winter golf i've ever had (weather wise)

First game of the year on Saturday and managed a solid gross 69. Tees were up and 4 temporary greens makes it feel a hollow victory though!

Breaking 70 is still completely awesome, you're playing a different game to most of us smile

Agree, you can only play what's in front of you!

Anything starting with a 6 is awesome, it doesn't happen enough for the vast majority of us!
