I use an app on my phone called FreeCaddie, seems pretty accurate to be fair - I've compared it against Skycaddies and it always seems to give the same results, plus wherever I have played in the world (Lanzarote, Bali, California) it has managed to find the course in question. Bit inconvenient having to get your phone out all the time, luckily it has a companion app for my Smartwatch.

How many of you use DMDs (Distance Measuring Devices)? I personally use a Skycaddie Touch, and must say it is an absolutely fantastic device. Detail and accuracy are second to none. Have seen other golfers with Garmin or Golf Buddy Devices and they are definitely not as good. All my opinion of course
I was going to purchase the Touch myself. However, after borrowing a few different GPS units, I went with a Garmin S5 watch. The units are great and the detail excellent, but I found I didn't really use most of the features.
More importantly, the watch gives me distances instantly - it's not attached to a trolley, it's not in my pocket, it's just there all the time. That for me was the most important factor (speed of play being particularly important at our club).
It shows me the fairways, hazards and greens and lets me pinpoint a position. Also lets me add reference points on each hole if I want to. More than enough for me.

I use the basic Shot Saver S210 which must be the cheapest device out there. Just having the front, middle and back of green information is enough for me. I honestly think it has improved my scores. Particularly with short irons where before, I would often come up short because I didn't know the distance to the back and not hit enough club. The only downside with the S210 is if the batteries run out mid round!I use the Golf Shot Pro app, it gives distance to front, middle, back of the green, distances to and to carry all hazards, distances for dog-legs, gives you a fly-by of the hole, lets you zoom in on the green to see detail of bunkers, lets you measure shots and saves the detail against each club, lets you score your round and easily gather all kinds of stats. I don't see why anyone would by a several hundred pound device to do the same (or rather less) when all the same tech is in your smart-phone.

I have the Golf Shot app, and used it successfully for over 3 years. It isn't as good as my Garmin watch though. Let me rephrase that, it is as good, but it isn't as convenient. It's too time consuming, can be distracting, and also means you see missed calls and texts that I'd rather not see when playing golf.

I agree it's a little inconvenient. I keep it next to my drinks holder in my trolley which works well. Re: texts, calls. I just switch off notifications. It isn't as good as my Garmin watch though. Recently bought some RSI2 irons from eBay as the price was just too good to pass up (patience of watching auctions for the past few weeks). Used them for the first time on the range this morning and the feel from them is something else. They're replacing 30 year old ping eye 2s that I've been using since progressing from junior clubs about 12 years ago.
Feels so sweet when you get it right but even the bad hits still travel. First round soth them tomorrow so will be interesting to see how i get on

Nothing compares to a lazer rangefinder imo.
If you ever get the chance to play at Woburn take it! The Marquess is staggeringly good

Nicest course I've ever played, will be used on the European Tour later this year .

Guessing not many here watching this live, but this final round of the US PGA is turning into a cracker. Jason Day's I'm hoping! He deserves it.
Not with fat shots like that ETA - I wish Harmon would stop talking over the other commentator!

Yep watched it all over the weekend. The USPGA always seems to throw up some great golf and a thrilling battle between the best. Well done Jason Day for getting the win. However, can't help thinking that these guys are hitting it too far these days...it just doesn't seem right that some of them are hitting a wedge as a second shot into a par five!

They're reaching 600+ yd holes in 2, so yeah it's ridiculous, but what do you do? I guess bringing the distances that the equipment can achieve down means a premium is placed on the shots closer to the green, giving the shorter hitters a chance if they've got the skill, but the golf world send obsessed with distance and I don't see that changing any time soon.
It would be nice to see people like Luke Donald have a bit more of a chance.
The only way to make the big hitters shorten their game is to make the courses more difficult.
In other words, stick a whole load of bunkers at 300 to 375 yards. If they carry those fair play, if not then they're hitting 3 wood of the tee.
But do we want that? Golf is dying on its arse as a sport, golf clubs closing and memberships falling.
People want to watch exciting golf on the TV, they don't want to watch people laying up all the time leaving themselves with 90 yard pitch shots that hop and stop within 4 feet every time.
You could argue that letting them have a go in 2 causes themselves problems more than lengthening the holes or introducing more hazards would.
I don't know the answer!
