Back to real golf
I shot 84 yesterday, 37 points with 3 blobs. Just 3 poor tee shots costing me a round of 80 or less. I'm getting there!
Out in 41, back in 43. The back nine included 5 pars on the trot. I also missed 8 birdie putts in total (lipped out on 3 of those!).
I feel I've become more consistent over the last 8 weeks, much of which seems to stem from being in play off of the tee.

I applaud these monster drives, they're a spectacle in themselves, they intrigue and inspire us, they're exciting.
We don't chastise other athletes for running faster, throwing farther or setting new benchmarks.
We've heard some big numbers in the last couple of weeks but it's been more to do with favourable firm conditions than any other factors and adding the stats up shows that the average drive is still around the 300yd mark.

I was back to some decent golf this week after a 2 month break. I went up the range as I haven't being hitting through the ball very well, discovered a good technique of basically kissing my right shoulder on follow through. The change is amazing. Hit 4 wood off the tee and shot a gross 84, blobbed the last 2 holes, lipped out 4 times but still made buffer.
I played with a scratch golfer who shot a 3 under with 1 bogey on Par 5, should have been a 4 and he also had 2 x 3 putts. A different game and a pleasure to watch!

Couldn't get my tee shots off very well yesterday, managed to get 33 points.
More interestingly, our club secretary approached me regarding taking over from him at the end of his 5 year term (which would be the end of next year).
I'm fairly interested, but I'd want to spend a few months with him fully appreciating what it involves before committing.

I had 34 points with 2 blobs. Snapped my driver on the 9th which was a pain. Didn't even notice as I hit the shot but when I put my headcover on the head snapped clean off with very little resistance. Ball went OOB left.
I have a spare shaft (Diamana Kai'li) but I preferred the feel of the one I had in there (Adila RIP). Probably not enough to spend £100 on a new one though.

I ended up with another net 75, which resulted in another .1 being added to the handicap, so am now off 10. All went on one hole as well, pulled a 3 wood into the trees on the 15th, then took 3 to get out (was tough to find a line out). Could have done without them hollow tining the greens the week before a medal too, had about 4 or 5 putts that were going straight for the hole get knocked off line and just shave the cup. But ah well, I'm sure the extra shot will come in useful in the knock out.
Good to see Tiger continue to move in te right direction though, he played some cracking golf over the weekend. The shanked chip yesterday was a bit silly, but otherwise seemed to have a pretty good week. Good to lee Davis Love pick up another win too.

Having my most consistent season ever this year. Played under my handicap in a competition for the fourth time yesterday. Just the one under this time but expecting my handicap to be cut more when the full results come out because that included an 8 on the par four 17th! I think nerves got to me at the thought of posting a good score. I'm expecting the handicap to be 11 point something when it's adjusted for that. Pretty good progress considering that it had sneaked up to 15 at the start of the season.

That's some decent golf though, if only one let you down! I managed 18 myself on sunday. 86 Gross which i wasn't too upset by considering i hadn't played in about 6 weeks. What was upsetting was the 3rd hole...Nice straight forward drive, followed by a wedge onto the green (par 4). Managed to thin the wedge over the back and walked off that hole with an 8. Plus .1 adjustment to mine too, now a 12.3. Good to see Tiger continue to move in te right direction though, he played some cracking golf over the weekend. Agreed RE Tiger, great to see him up there again!
Has anyone tried the golf range at Greenwich Peninsula?

I'm tempted to go tomorrow as it's closer to my flat than World of Golf, New Malden where I usually go. £12 for 120 balls isn't great but it's not terrible.
I'm not sure about this though:

That's the really annoying thing, I've been striking the ball better than I ever have this season, especially with my irons, it's just not translating into good scores in medals. Just seems to be consistency off the tee I'm struggling with, my driving has been a bit on the military side no matter what club I use - in fact the straightest ones seem to be when I get my driver out and give it a smack. Something to work on over winter I think.Agreed RE Tiger, great to see him up there again!
86 after 6 weeks out is not bad going at all! I wouldn't be too annoyed at the thinned wedge, easy to do if you're just getting back into it again. Rest of the round must have been pretty decent though.

£12 for 120 balls???? Is that some sort of London Tax or something? At my local range, it's £5.50 for 100 Srixons and they've even supplied an old Rover 25 to aim at in the middle of the range.
There are slightly cheaper places around but not ones as convenient for me. But yes, it is a London tax.ManFromDelmonte said:

Sounds very wky and 'City'I'll just stick to taking my old 10 litre paint can full of old balls down to our pure turf range for free though.......

If you're struggling off the tee maybe go down to a 3 wood? Or even a 4 iron? As a 10 handicap I'm sure you're not exactly short off the Tee? So might be worth biting the bullet and taking less club? Maybe only open up the drive on holes with an adjacent fairway and no OB / Trouble? 86 after 6 weeks out is not bad going at all! There was definitely some half decent golf in there and the 30 putts certainly helped!

I would love that. Hitting off mats is definitely a bit crap. Ok for the driver though.I'll just stick to taking my old 10 litre paint can full of old balls down to our pure turf range for free though.......

Hehe oh trust me I've tried, but I seem to be just as capable as putting a 3 wood or 2 iron into the trees as my driver. I'll typically only use the driver on 5 or 6 holes on the way round, as as you say I can hit a 3 wood around 250 so not losing out too much. Sadly I'm just as wild with that as I am with the big stick There was definitely some half decent golf in there and the 30 putts certainly helped!
Time for a lesson or two me thinks.
