Controversy at the Solheim Cup!
It's all kicking off.
Sounds like the Europeans haven't been playing nicely.
Even if it was a genuine mistake by Petterson on the green, and she hadn't meant to give the impression that she'd conceded the putt, her refusal to put things right before the next tee was a very poor show.
Glad the Americans won now.

Had a cheeky 9 holes inbetween DIY on Sunday afternoon, just on my own. Shot 41 in quite blowy conditions so was pleased.
Driver went really well.
Just booked myself in for a session with a putting coach to get my putting swing sorted and get a nice shiny new flat stick custom fitted.
Aiming for that single figure handicap next year!!

One has to wonder if the yanks would have done the same thing if the opportunity arose.
No-one seems to be concerned by the fact that the American picked her ball up without being sure the putt was given, in a world event. That is diabolically stupid.
Petterson could have perhaps handled it better but the yank was hardly blameless.
Would any of you have assumed the putt was given bearing in mind the situation she was in?

When the opposition players and caddie walk away from the green as soon as the putt rolls past the hole, then yes I probably would - I'd probably double check though!Petterson could have perhaps handled it better but the yank was hardly blameless.

You're right - if she picked up the ball without hearing or seeing (a nod for example) a concession from a European player, then she is completely at fault.
But if the Europeans hadn't conceded the putt, they shouldn't have made for the next tee.
Half a dozen of one and six of the other.

By-the-book, then yes, she was wrong to pick it up. But in the shades-of-grey way golfers play the game, then when your competitor just walks off that is a strong suggestion that the putt has been conceded.Petterson could have perhaps handled it better but the yank was hardly blameless.

As a bystander it would be easy to interpret Pettersen's actions as a deliberately sneaky move, knowing that the young and 'junior' player on the other team would pick the ball up instead of calling her back to ask for clarification either-way from Pettersen, and then Pettersen "springing the trap".
Even if it wasn't as deliberate and nasty as that, then once done the situation was easily defused, and they refused to do that.
Unpleasant and unnecessary. Glad she lost.
I don't think you can say without being there. Lee made a rookie mistake picking up the ball, Petterson made a rookie mistake in walking away before the putt was made and by handling the situation badly after the event.
I don't think Petterson is the evil golf mastermind as portrayed by some.
One thing is for sure, neither will make the same mistake again.

Watched the golf channel re Suzanne Petterson and the controversy on the 17th in the Solheim cup it turns out the rule is if you pick up when you "think" a putt has been given (and with Hull walking off before she putted Lee thought it was given plus she said she thought she heard someone say it was good but Petterson said it hadn't) you replace your ball to where it was on the green and putt out for no penalty.... So the culprit on this occasion apparently was the match referee who should have known that rule.... He said hole halved in four match all square as he was walking off so even he thought they had given the putt!

Interesting. Embarrassing that seemingly nobody (us included) knew that!Jim
Yeah it was a new one to me also but you would think a Solheim Cup referee would have known that...surely they sit down and discuss the competition and with it being a matchplay one you would think that the issue of "given" putts would have been high on the agenda.

Very mixed round today
7 over for 15 holes, the other 3 were 14 over (a ten and 2 eights). I always have those two or three holes that destroy a good round, all were out of bounds left and then shocking play with second ball as my head had gone
9 pars, 10 GIR, 33 putts and 38 points playing off 18. Not too bad really

I'm struggling a bit, but still not scoring too badly.
Only 5 GIR today, but only 1 over my handicap. +12 83 gross. If I hit another 3 or 4 greens I'll comfortably be in the 70s again. My chipping did save me a few times today though.
For some reason I'm having trouble committing to a full swing, and it makes me duff the ball a bit. I hit more than enough fairways, and I'm rarely far off line when I miss, so I should be hitting far more greens.

Jordan spieth makes me sick. He's incredible. If he donated 10% of his ability to me I'd be a bloody scratch golfer.
He's just won $10m and doesn't even look that bothered!
I don't like him. I find him irritating to watch - I don't think his overall game is as good as others, but his putting gets him out of so many sticky situations. He's just won $10m and doesn't even look that bothered!
