I love watching Speith, but then I love watching any golf, heck I'd even watch Rosscow and Speckled Jim play if it was televised
I nominate DuncanM as cameraman, how about it chaps?
I'd certainly rather play! I'm sure we could manage both I nominate DuncanM as cameraman, how about it chaps?
Right now I'm working on fitness after an awful year of injuries.
I do love watching golf, my last round was with a scratch player who had genuine birdie putts on what felt like the majority Of holes, that was at Woburn off the white tees!
Superb golfer, and I feel privileged to know him
I've just ordered a set of RFID tags for the Game Golf app.
You screw one into the end of the grip on each club and then tap the end of the club on your phone before playing each shot. Your phone then logs the GPS co-ords of each shot and uses this (via the website and mobile app) to give you all kinds of useful stats about your game.
I was using the GolfShot previously and I think I will continue to use this for scoring my rounds as it seems to have more options (multiple golfers, Stableford points etc.) but I am hopeful that using Game Golf can give me better stats on where my misses are and ave distances etc. The GG app also does the rangefinder side of things that I used to use GolfShot for.
Until recently it was required that you bought a standalone GPS device that you clipped to your belt and tagged your clubs against this before downloading the data to a laptop after your round. The Android app version uses NFC and GPS in your phone and automatically uploads the data via your phone data network, which seems better.
Are there any other Game Golf users on here?

I'll be honest, I don't think things like Game Golf are good for your golf. Sure, they give you some good stats, but I think that you end up thinking about too many other things whilst trying to play.
I've gone away from using GolfShot for yardages. I much prefer my Garmin watch, it tells me everything I need to know instantly, without anything else to distract me.
I played with a friend the other week. He had a GPS range finder, used GameGolf and also kept looking at the course planner he bought in the pro shop.
He was sooooo slow to play with, and spent more time working out the exact yardage (to the yard) than he did thinking about what shot to play and his swing. He plays off of 20! there's no need for it.
My golf has improved this year, and I think that getting away from the iPhone on the course and going back to basics has really helped.
Fill out GolfShot at the end of the round in the bar, I do that most of the time. It's easy to remember the round you've just played.
If you really want to use something like Game Golf, then I reckon the belt clip thing would probably be better as you don't need to pick up your iPhone to use it.
This is just my opinion - I don't want to cause an argument!!!

Ahh, the 20 handicapper with all the toys. What a joy it is to wait while they go through their protracted hole planning, club selection, tee selection, ball alignment, windage, practice swings, set up and address He was sooooo slow to play with, and spent more time working out the exact yardage (to the yard) than he did thinking about what shot to play and his swing. And then shank it
Garmin watch has helped me massively for hitting greens, especially on the courses I play which are useless for yardage markers. I would previously have had no idea if I was 90 or 120 yards away without pacing it out (who has time for that?). So I would regularly drop a SW short or smack a PW over the green. I now know my exact distance for each club and find myself landing it bang in the middle far more often. Just a shame I can't putt
I've got a mate who plays to around 26/27. But my god if he isn't the slowest golfer known to man. He'll do all of the above, then stand over the ball for a good thirty seconds before actually hitting the shot. Only to hit a huge slice of top it off the tee. Then when you finally get to the green, he takes on average 3.4 putts. I wouldn't mind that much if he'd just taken up the game, but he's been playing for about 5 years. He's a nightmare to play with. A two ball round is easily over 3 hours with him once you've helped him find his ball etc.

3 hours? That sounds good! We normally play a 2 ball in 3 hours or so.cheddar said:

Looks like the BBC has shown it's last Open. They've brought forward switching to highlights by 12 months, next year will be highlights only.

Over 3 hours usually so around the 3 hour 30 mark, which IMO is the pace a 3 ball. I played with one of the lads a while ago who is a similar standard to myself, managed to get round in 2 hours 30! We didn't lose a ball between us in fairness & did have the course to ourselves which made a nice change. kentlad said:

Blooming heck, 2 hours 30 doesn't sound much fun to me tbh :-/DuncanM said:

Trying to sort out our yearly golf trip with the group I play in. Anyone got any recommendations? Criteria being somewhere in the South of England. From Cornwall to Brighton & anywhere in between.
What time of year and for how long for? I've been to quite a few now! Would recommend:East Sussex National (2 excellent courses)
Goodwood
Mannings Heath (Waterfall Course is lovely, Kingfisher course is OK - you stay at the South Lodge Hotel which is bloody lovely!)
The Oxfordshire (where I played the other week - very good but only 1 course)
St Mellion (the Nicklaus Course is really tough, so if you have higher handicappers perhaps not the best choice)
I'd also highly recommend a hotel in Bournemouth (great for a night out) with rounds at the Isle of Purbeck and Remedy Oak courses - both stunning courses.

Have a look at Ashbury Manor. The golf is good, numerous courses and it's very reasonable...the 80's social club décor may not be to everyone's liking but you can't have everything
I've been with a big group the last couple of years, Sun-Thu, and really enjoyed it.
