This is what I'm hoping.

I generally strike my irons well (currently play MP52 which are hardly chunky) and in the last couple of rounds my bad shots have been mainly fats which no amount of high MOI forgiveness in the face is going to help.

I would love a set of MP4's and more so the new MP5's but sadly they're not available in left handed. I've had my MP32's for about 10 years now and they're more than worn out, so I'm trying a set of the MP25's to see how they feel!

Can't go wrong with Mizuno irons, by far the best in the forged category smile

Best thing I ever did was to move to blades - used to chop and change my irons every 18 months or so, then tried out a set of the Nike Forged Blade Tiger initially used, and instantly fell in love. That was 2004 and they are still in my bag to this day.

Was hitting them especially well at the weekend - we had our Foursome Knockout Final, which I was not feeling too confident about having not played since the semi-final 4 weeks previously (and a few too many shandies the night before), but was hitting everything sweet - put a 5 iron to 5 feet from about 180 yeards away with the pin tight behind the bunker, a sand iron to 1 foot and a 4 iron to about 15 feet away on a par 3.

Oh, an we won 5 and 4 smile

I agree, I've been hitting other brands whenever I can on the range but haven't found anything that feels as good as my current MP52s.

Before them I had a set of TaylorMade 360. The other day I took the TM 7-iron to the range along with my MP52 to do a back to back comparison, the TM was like I was hitting marbles rather than golf balls.

I'm hoping the MP4s should feel even better.

Taylor Made, M1 9.5 degree, Fujikura Pro 60 gram, Stiff.

Bought my new toy...
Lower spin rate, faster club head speed, consistent launch angle and distance points. Have had the R11 for 5 years, this is a step up and on for Taylor Made.

Will be used in anger on the weekend.

I'm pretty sure that supposedly "new" tech in drivers makes almost no difference. Especially to amateur players.

The biggest difference most people can make to improve distance and accuracy is in how they deliver the club.

I've recently made changes to how I swing my driver. I'm hitting it further and straighter than I ever have.

Did you buy the m1 you tried or was it a fitting session. Don't be too disturbed if it doesn't play anything like the test setup as you might be able to fiddle with it to get somewhere near those results.

I played Titleist all my life until the last 5 years when I switched to the R11. I'm out one to change easily.
I have Titleist fitted irons and would recommend to every player to get properly fitted for any club.

My local store had a full fitting session with all 28 options of shaft, head size and lofts. I have the club Neutral set, so that I can work the ball when I want to.
It performed very well on the range tonight, although my hands are still sore from about 150 swings whilst fitting the club yesterday.

Off to the course on the weekend to see how the carry, roll and workability compare to my old driver.

Just found my new favourite shop just off Regents street. Chock full of 'decent' golf clothing. Just managed to nab some slim trousers. I've got skinny legs so slim don't usually cut it, these however are narrow & fit perfectly. Expensive, but i've been looking for something similar for a long time! About a 5 minute walk from my new work & they stock everything but clubs. Could be an expensive find.

First round today in 3 years and having recently recovered from a dislocated shoulder. Really , really enjoyed it. Shot low 90's which i was happy with, need to work on my chipping/short game and putting. Was getting on the green/just short of in 2 shots on a par 4 and finishing on 6 which is not really good enough.

Has anyone tried one of the nite-hawk torches for finding golf balls?

I bought one for a laugh thinking it might be a bit useless, but tried it for the first time tonight and it's bloody good.

I wandered round a local course tonight for just over an hour and came home with a carrier bag of over 100 balls. Probably half of them are srixon soft/333/z star or various titliest including about a dozen pro v1. It's more than paid for itself already.

Does it work in daylight, for those annoying situations where you're less than 3' in the rough and thought you could trace it to an area between two trees but can't find the fking thing when you get there??

If only...

It lets you take a financial advantage from other people's inability. Sally it doesn't make up for me being a bit crap.

I did find one of mine that I'd lost the day before though.

Fantastic win for young Fitzpatrick at the Masters - he's going to be some player.

As for me, had an awful front 9 on Saturday morning scoring 11 points. Gave myself a talking to on the 10th tee and shot 3 over the card for the back 9 scoring 21 points, including 2 birdies (almost an eagle on the par 5 15th!).

Birdied the 18th so walked off a happy man with a not so bad 32 points.

I was braced for that being >£200 like everything else you boys buy for golf, but at £18.99 I think I'm going to have one too!

It really is a great piece of kit. For anyone that's got kids, it'll make a fun adventure for them wandering around the woods at night.

If you do get one, a couple of tips from my first outing...

Think about where YOU lose balls. I guarantee you're not the only one.

Hedgerows and bushes are easier to find balls than deep rough. I found very few in thick grass.

The edges of water hazards are good too. I think people just see it's gone in the hazard and don't bother looking.

Wear gloves and a non Snaggy top, like a cheap waterproof. My hands got stung to hell and my hoody got caught everywhere.

I don't have enough time to actually play golf, let alone scrubbing around in the dark looking for half knackered Pinnacles!!!!
