I was given a quick impromptu lesson by the pro at my local range on Sunday, he got me to set my wrists early (like the Faldo/leadbetter drill) and then go ahead and swing, absolutely amazing results - haven't struck an iron that well for quite some time!
Yep, that's a great drill. Doesn't help your takeaway though so make sure you work on that part also!daveR6 said:
Just whatever works for you fella.
I play between 1 and 2 depending on the severity of my short game. Home course is very tight...

yeah that's the strange thing about the drill, it programs your brain into retaining the wrist cock longer in the swing, but seems to wear off as soon as you stop doing it!kentlad said:
Absolutely & that's what makes the game great! Wow, that's impressive on that track, would love to see your swing if you've got time to post it up.
What a beautiful course! I bet it's an absolute pig to get around when the winds up.
Had a quick nose at the membership part of the website. The 'lifetime' membership is pretty intriguing, looks a great way to guarantee a clubs future.
I might add that course to the list i have of 'must plays' in Scotland that i'm planning on doing over the next few years!
I am playing tomorrow so will see if I can get one on the range. I played today and it was gusting up to 46mph. What a beautiful course! I bet it's an absolute pig to get around when the winds up.

Glad I had a spare few balls :-(

The "faldo" pump drill is gold. I know someone who played like this on the course, would set the wrists and then turn back and hit. Was weird but very effective.Interesting when you mention retaning the wrist cock longer? Can you elaborate further on this?

I'm seriously considering building it into my swing, it works that well !

I have a bad feeling about Darren Clarke. I think we might lose this one.Davis Love it is then....

Not overly sold on DC myself, but the European team is just so much more than the Captain these days, there are so many leaders on the course when we play. That's not taking anything away from McGinley, he did a superb job by all accounts.
The 'Muricans' on the other hand put so much emphasis on the Captain these days it's crazy. At the end of the day, 12 guys still need to go out and beat the Europeans in front of them, yes the Captain can do all the prep, the team talks etc but at the end of the day the players need to go out and beat the guys we out in front if them, something that they just cannot do at the moment.
Has anyone else seen James Hahn's press conference from Riviera? I have a new favourite player from that side of the pond, such a humble individual.
Bubba, Sergio and quite a few others could learn something from his attitude, very refreshing and worth watching if you have 30 mins spare.

Yeah, comes across as a lovely guy! Will watch in full when I get the chance.
I was just pleased that Dustin Johnson didn't win....
I think he (DJ) is going to have a big year.I was just pleased that Dustin Johnson didn't win....
Paired with Rory and Brooks Koepka first 2 rounds at the Honda, that is going to be a spectacle, all absolute monsters off the tee.

I'm loving golf at the moment, had a great session on the range last night, really hitting my irons well. Also booked my first hour lesson of the year in the Performance Centre, can't wait to see all my clubhead data and to see some decent videos of my swing.
Great stuff, please keep us updated after the Performance Centre boxsey said:

I really felt like it gave a good solid base to allow the left arm/shoulder to simply rotate the shoulders on plane, and then be able to pull down and hard with the left side through to impact. Its a great drill imho, and for at least that really emphasised the importance of the left side controlling the backswing/downswing and keeping a passive right side.

The pre-set is a drill I used a lot when I played/practiced and think I recommended it to someone on the previous thread. I like how it takes out variations in the setting of the wrist angle while the swing is in motion and eliminates errors like fanning or cupping on the takeaway.

I would disagree with your last paragraph. Although this "feeling" maybe worked for you it is not conducive to a powerful golf swing to have the right side passive. The right side, in particular the right leg should load and brace in the backswing. The above what you describe sounds like stack and tilt.
If you watch the video in slo motion you can clearly see Faldo loads into his right side and let's it all go from the top.
Looking into this drill further it does a few things IMO.
1. It sets a neutral hinging of the wrists.
2. The left arm is rotated a 1/4 of a turn.
3. It allows the arms to separate from the chest at address (arms do not swing across the chest they move away).
4. The motion of turning the shoulders only with the pre-set allows the arms and pivot to be in sync.
