Brilliant shoes - most comfortable I have ever worn
Got some Adidas Gripmore for the summer too - also top shoes

Interesting - I really don't like the look of the those Adidas Adipower at all. They just look like trainers (a bit like McIlroy's Nike shoes, horrible).

I have these:

and these for warmer months / drier weather:

I really rate Ecco golf shoes - I'm lucky enough to have an Ecco factory outlet store nearby so can get some great prices.

Lovely guy, pleased to see him win again after all these years.

And that is just how long it took him to play the back 9..

Sure he is a nice guy but I cannot watch him, disgustingly slow.

Emirates Amateur Open for me on Thurs and Fri this week, 2nd round is on the Majlis Course (where Rory won in Jan) which is the best course in the UAE imo.

Just need to decide which of the 4 putters that are currently crammed in my golf bag I am going to use!

I must admit that I hadn't noticed how slow he is/was? I did notice Poulter taking an absolute age on several occasions.

Mind you, your first win in 7 years I suppose you'd take your time!

He's always been slow, renowned for it, was just as bad when he won in Indonesia in December, the last hole made me want to kill myself.

Poulter is also guilty, but then he was choking so hard he couldn't breath I guess hehe

I really wish they would do something about the pace of play, it filters down to hackers like us.

Anything under 4.5 hours here is quick, it drives me mad!!

4.5 hours where i am is about average for a four ball...

I've had a round where me and a friend got stuck behind a members 4 ball. They refused to let us through and as it was the first time we'd played the course we didn't really want to skip any holes....took us a shade under 6 hours. No Marshals on the course and when we went to complain we were met with 'ah they're members, can't do much' great attitude eh! It was a Tuesday afternoon & there was no-one in front of them. Suffice to say, we haven't been back too often!

4 ball golf is the main problem.

I don't really enjoy playing in a 4 ball anymore, it takes too bloody long.

Our club doesn't allow them so only 2 balls or foursomes are played, anything over 3.5 hours is frowned upon.

I still play in 4 balls on society days but Jesus, it does drag.

When I am playing alone early morning, I can easily get round in about 2 hours 15. Played a 4 ball last Sunday - took 4 hours 15. Again, not a huge fan of 4 balls, 3 is my preferred maximum.

I'd recorded the final 11 holes and didn't get to watch them until yesterday. You're right that was painfully slow by Harrington! The worst part was when he started using his notes to read his putts on the greens! Poulter appeared to slow down his play to match Harrington. I've never had Poulter down as a slow player and that might have contributed to his downfall. Had to feel sorry for Reed playing with those two. It looked like he lost the will to live and consequently lost his focus. Then to cap it all Harrington did the same in the play off by grinding down young Berger with his slow play.

Are there rules on gamesmanship with slow play? I remember watching Peter Ebdon playing Ronnie O'Sullivan in the snooker and he deliberately fart-arsed around for about half an hour with each shot. Eventually Ronnie basically throw in the towel.

It's very selfish as the crowd hate it as much as your opponent, and without them, you aren't gonna get paid. It's not so bad for golf spectators on TV as there is always something else going on but the playoff really highlighted it.

It isn't a question of 4 balls being slow, it's down to players being slow.
4 hours for a 4 ball is adequate. Players should when possible be ready to play when it's their turn. Too much chatting, 5 minute practice routines and strolling about without a care in the world/without a clue are what slows golf down.

No and the greatest player ever was a great proponent of being slow as hell!

This is a good point actually. I am a big fan of "ready golf".

Had a great lesson last night, it turns out I'm a massive handle dragger.

I used to have a massively out to in club path (promoting a massive slice) which I managed to sort out myself by swinging around the body more. However, I would still lose the odd one left and suffered very healy strikes and the occasional J Arthur Rank.

After only 10 or so shots the pro had me trying to feel like I was throwing the club-head at the ball much earlier in the downswing as I hold onto the lag angle far too long. When I actually managed to overcome my muscle memory and do it I had the most amazing ball-flight, a beautiful slight draw, a much truer height and better distance along with more centered strikes. I think it's going to take quite a while to bed it in but I'm very encouraged.

I also managed to fit in a putting lesson and was feeling much better about my stroke by the end.

I was encouraged to hear that I have the swing of a low teen or single figure handicapper with a bit (probably a lot) of practice.

If anyone is umming and ahhing about getting a lesson, I would book one today.

Glad he made that up and down on the last. A blemish free round. Well done Sir.

I guess it is very difficult to put down in words what he was getting you to do. Am I right in reading that as; he was getting you to feel as though you were hitting with the club head rather than the handle? Can you try to explain it more?

My own downswing is too much out to in. Hence my interest.

The out to in part I sorted myself in the month or so before the lesson. I just tried to feel like I was swinging the club around my body rather than up and down if that makes sense. Almost like swinging a baseball bat but obviously leaning forward more than you would when playing baseball.

The clubhead/handle part was that I was maintaining the approx 90 degree angle between my right forearm and the club for too long in my downswing. He asked me to feel that I was basically dumping that angle as soon as I started my downswing in order to allow the clubhead to catch up with my hands by the point of impact. Previously my hands would have been ahead of the ball, delofting the club and forcing me to twist the club in an effort to get the head square to target.

A great drill for getting yourself out of the habit of swinging out to in is to put a physical barrier behind you, to force you to bring the club back and through on a flatter plane. I used my bag, works a treat. Put it directly behind you and try your usual backswing, it'll amaze you how quickly you start to swing around your body to avoid the bag....that worked for me! The 'water bottle' drill is also quite good. Google it, there's tons of videos explaining it better than i can on this platform.
