I've been using the free version for a while and have never got shot tracking to work. I tried to track numerous shots on Sunday but all ended up showing as 0y.

I was pressing "I'm at my ball" and selecting my club before hitting the shot, then pressing Save when I reached by ball after hitting it. I have also tried pressing "I'm at my ball", selecting the club, pressing save, then hitting my shot, walking up, pressing "I'm at my ball" again and entering the next club. This didn't seem to work either.

Has anyone got this working?

Cheers,

TMFD

Hmmm, surely you enter the club you use, and then when you get to the next shot it calculates how far you hit that club?

I'm hoping it has that aspect to it smile

£20 is a very good price, well worth it anyway.

Right, I've worked it out. I downloaded a GPS location spoofer to enable me to test it out.

You stand at your ball and press "track"
Then you hit your shot and walk to your ball.
Then you press "I'm at my ball", choose the club you used and indicate whether you missed long, short, left right or hit your target.
Then you press "Save"

I just hit my 8 iron 320 yards. Luckily you can delete swings.

That sounds too much hassle tbh.

Golflogix looks a much better prospect.

Has anyone got a handy thingy to hold your phone on your bag, rather than having to keep it in your pocket and faff about all the time?

It's not a faff at all.

All you do is hit your ball, then press the track button.

When you reach your ball you press I'm at my ball and tell it what club you hit.

If I'm honest I never use that function! Not seen Golflogix, will have a gander.

It's not a lot of hassle but I think Game Golf is the way forward if you want lots of meaningful stats. I'm planning on buying it once the weather gets better.

Right chaps, bit of a noob question here. I started golfing about 6 months ago and I'm currently using a golf bag with a stand. I'm finding on a full 18 that it isn't good for my back to be carrying the weight so I want to get a trolley asap. I'm on a tight budget but I do believe in buying once rather than buying cheap.
I assume a 3 wheeled trolley is best as it can be pushed rather than needing to be 'balanced' while walking. Will I also need to purchase a new golf bag to fit a trolley? I plan to pick something up 2nd hand from gumtree, ebay etc so please no tempting motocaddy suggestions.

Does anyone here use a laser rangefinder? If so, which one? I had the use briefly of a Bushnell model at the weekend and found it quicker than using my GPS watch.

For bags and trolleys I will always recommend Sun Mountain gear - it really is great equipment.

I'm not sure where you are but I have the newer version of this and it is superb:

Any bag will fit as the 'fins' that hold the bag in are completely adjustable.

I have a Shotsaver that I'd recommend but they've gone up in price now.

My friend had one he bought on ebay for ~£60 and it works fine.

I love 'em smile

I've just bought the Shotsaver S210 GPS and for the price I just can't fault it. Distances to front, middle and back have proved to be very reliable. Obviously it doesn't give distance to the current flag position like a range finder but I find that the distance to front, middle and back is more than sufficient my standard of golf.

I highly recommend this:

Don't buy the cheaper version, my friend has it and it's nowhere near as good. I've had mine for over 3 years with no issues.

Does anyone else here just go and play, no phone, no measuring instruments, no 'fly by' images, micro distances or suggested club apps, just you, your clubs, the ball and beautiful surroundings?

No! But then my course doesn't have any yardage markers so it's much more difficult without a GPS or laser.

I only use my phone as a GPS, I don't text or email while playing. And I did use my Garmin watch until it was stolen.

I dont have any technology, but I would be completely lost without pacing out from the 150 markers.

Even better Rosscow, golf in its purest form.

I play an ambrose on Sundays and one of our four has a hilarious amount of electronic equipment, two gps thingies (in case one's wrong), a tapety tap thing on his belt that shows him where his ball is or something and pingy noise thing that denotes a good shot, I think he's got a portable stimp metre tucked away too but that's conjecture - he dresses like Rickie Fowler, his shoes are cleaner than my dinner plates, he takes 2 days to address his ball and plays off of a manufactured vanity handicap of 9.8 but most often hits 90's. Aside from his play he never notices the course, the trees, the weather, the scenery or just how pleasant this game can be.

I'm not suggesting that everyone with electronic equipment is like that but I do think it can encumber rather than aid, even if it's just the enjoyment smile

Flame suit on.

hehe He sounds like an infuriating person to play with!

I like the idea of not needing a rangefinder, but in reality it'll just cost me shots.
