Even better Rosscow, golf in its purest form.

I play an ambrose on Sundays and one of our four has a hilarious amount of electronic equipment, two gps thingies (in case one's wrong), a tapety tap thing on his belt that shows him where his ball is or something and pingy noise thing that denotes a good shot, I think he's got a portable stimp metre tucked away too but that's conjecture - he dresses like Rickie Fowler, his shoes are cleaner than my dinner plates, he takes 2 days to address his ball and plays off of a manufactured vanity handicap of 9.8 but most often hits 90's. Aside from his play he never notices the course, the trees, the weather, the scenery or just how pleasant this game can be.

I'm not suggesting that everyone with electronic equipment is like that but I do think it can encumber rather than aid, even if it's just the enjoyment smile

Flame suit on.
hehe He sounds like an infuriating person to play with!

I like the idea of not needing a rangefinder, but in reality it'll just cost me shots.
Hey Cheddar smile

Truth is I just don't have the eyes for playing 'natural golf'. It is no bother to me to use yardage markers, but the Laser is sooo much quicker, and gives you the best feedback on how you're hitting your irons.

Good luck to your snazzy friend, no right or wrong way to enjoy this great game IMO smile

I find that a GPS is of most use when playing courses on holiday abroad. Try as I might I could never get on with using markers measured in metres. It's much easier to look it up in yards than do the conversion in my head. And for some strange reason a distance of 165 yards makes me more comfortable about what to use than 150 metres does. wobble

Convert metres to yards:

Add the first two digits (of a 3 digit number) to the original number:

150m ....... 15+150........165 yards.

0r

80m......... 8+80..........88 yards.

That's what she said. Sorry, couldn't resist. getmecoat

Out of interest, anyone on this thread go to the gym and do any golf specific work outs? I've been going (to the gym) for a little while and thinking of putting together a routine built around golf.

Did not go well this morning. On my own, 8 holes in an hour and a smidge playing 2 balls.

Sideways rain. 3 degrees. 150 yard visibility.

Walked in. Stupid game.

Indeed, hoping it stays that way for a game tomorrow!

That looks very nice - what are the course conditions like at the moment? Your home club?

Looks like tomorrow should be OK, a little colder and a bit of a breeze. Where do you play? Welcome to the golf thread!

Thanks! I have just rejoined my local club Mannings Heath after a long break from the game. Yourself?

I've played at the Nicklaus and the Cheshire at the Carden on a De Vere break (not sure if still owned by them) a few years ago. Found both to be very decent tracks.

It is very wet, but holding up, in the main. In good summer weather, in midweek when the tourists aren't around, it's a great place. Lovely views over to Wales, and 2 well-kept and interesting courses. It cost an absolute fortune to build, and that still shows.

Typical resort atmosphere though. Zero club-life and plenty of buggies (the fastest way to play slow golf).

It is my home club, but I'm thinking about moving this year in the hope of finding a club with a bit more life, and maybe a team to try to play for.

That sounds too much hassle tbh.

Golflogix looks a much better prospect.
It's not a faff at all.

All you do is hit your ball, then press the track button.

When you reach your ball you press I'm at my ball and tell it what club you hit.

If I'm honest I never use that function! Not seen Golflogix, will have a gander.
Rosscow, do you pay for the Pro Golfshot or do you just use the free app? Also, do you use the shot tracker much?

I downloaded Golflogix and don't think much of it tbh, awful gui frown

Well, I've only had the normal version until recently when I decided to pay £7 for a year of the 'pro' version.

I wouldn't bother with the pro, the normal app is just fine as it is.

I use the tracker occasionally if I hit a stonking drive, that's about it biggrin
