Nice! Bet that was quite a feeling?!
Yeah, it felt great! Would have felt even better if I hadn't taken 3 off the tee hehe

We only had time for 12 holes as I had to pick my daughter up from dancing class, still managed 20 points with 2 blobs so not too bad.

I wish I had played yesterday - beautiful day for it.

Yes, I use Golfshot. It's an excellent app. I don't tend to fill in all of the information much these days but it does give excellent information if you do.

The Wilson 8802

Even just to get the new re release?

I have a Yes Sophia along the same lines as the 8802, it's just a bit short to make it in the regular rotation.

Edit - Does anyone use the golfshot app? Mate of mine loves it, tells him scrambling stats, which side he misses fairways more often on etc etc, I've just downloaded it to try it in the medal on Friday.

New release is lovely but not LH frown

I'd probably go for a Byron if I ever did replace it now.

Btw, I don't think golfshot app is allowed in comps? Due to being on a phone?

I love the new stat taking apps, gamegolf looks awesome.
Use of Golfshot is fine. From the R&A:

Q. What about multi-functional devices, such as a mobile phone, with a distance-measuring application?

A. On the course, subject to any club or course regulations, a multi-functional device may be used to phone, text, email or to look up general information, provided the purpose is not a breach of the Rules, e.g. you cannot make a phone call to ask for advice.

When an application that measures distance has been downloaded to the device, the application must be restricted to providing only distance information in order to conform to the Local Rule. If there are other features or applications on the phone that can specifically gauge or measure conditions that might affect the player’s play, such as an anemometer or thermometer, this would render the device non-conforming for use as a distance-measuring device, regardless of the fact that these other features or applications are used or not.

As they are at mine, but nobody has told me off yet!!!

I did have a watch, until someone stole all of my golf gear.... and I will probably get a replacement one this spring.

I'm not keen on the lasers. I think if you're a very good player, fine. But for the average club golfer a GPS unit, either watch/hand held or trolley mounted, is a much quicker device to use.

Nothing worse than getting your £300 laser range finder out for a 150 yard 8 iron only to either fat it or shank it!!!

Right boys, haven't done this for a while! Let's see if you can pick holes in my swing smile

This is a 3 wood off the deck. Bad shot for me at the moment will be a pull to the left (very occasionally a hook), and at the moment I occasionally hit it out of the heel of the club (which I think I did on this shot).

Apologies for the poor light and video (iPhone 6+ slow motion).

Looking at it myself I seem to be stretching slightly at address, I'd rather my arms were hanging down straighter.

Please don't take the piss too much hehe

Officially 17, but I have had some blinding rounds last year and played to around 13 on more than a few occasions (just not in comps!). Just need to get more consistent.

Mate that is a great golf swing, really good!

Struggling to think of anything to say other than keep it up smile

What do you play off and do you take lessons?

Looks a bit Robert Rock which is a good thing wink
Thanks, Duncan!

I didn't used to have this much hair, and then I went to the barbers with a picture of RR about a year ago and asked for hair like his and hey presto, everyone now says I look like him! hehe

Even some of the boys at the club call me 'Rock' as my nick name now hehe

Play off 17 at the moment, but really with a good year this year I'm looking at getting down to 12 or 13. I just need to iron a few things out and be more consistent.
I played to 13 a couple of times last year, and managed to shoot 39 for the back 9 a few weeks back so hopefully I'll continue to improve.

And yes, I do have lessons. I had probably half a dozen hour sessions last year, and I'm looking to have 1 a month covering all aspects of the game this year. They make such a difference.

What is your handicap, mate? I used to do what you do, where your left leg straightens on the back swing .

I've tried really hard to cut that movement out, keep the rear leg (my right, your left) more flexed and 'quiet' through the back swing (basically trying to copy the pro's).

I've found this improves my balance and also my rhythm/tempo through the swing.

It's a decent looking swing though!

Mate your swing is better than 17hc, should deffo get down this year.

I'd be interested in your Golfshot stats once the season starts. I am going to use it too for practice rounds, maybe we can compare notes in a couple of months time.

I really like your swing, very simple and on plane, not too much to go wrong.
Yeah, if I'm honest I think I'm better than 17 as well. Just need to cut the bad holes out!

I'm going to delete all of the GolfShot stats that my phone has stored and start afresh soon, too much crap on there from before my swing changes. But yeah, it will be interesting to compare!

Thanks, it's always nice to have an independent view smile

Rosscow - do you struggle to Hold greens if you hit them? with a swing like that i'd imagine you do occasionally?

.... i.e. you don't get a great amount of spin with your irons? great for drives, but not for holding greens?

Maybe something to chat about with your Pro?

At the end of the day (I've done it too, quite recently & am not saying there's anything wrong with it...might even do it again over the weekend hehe) we all post our swings up to see what out peers think...when realistically the best person for advice is the pro you have lessons with...although it is nice to get an outside perspective, we are all amateurs (i think) and any advice on here might be best to be spoken about with your Pro before implementing?

I really do believe once you get below an 18 handicap you'll save most shots on/around the greens...maybe leave your swing as it is & work on your scrambling/putting or even course management? I know i can hit 9/18 GIR on any day, yet i still play to a 13...that's purely down to having a rubbish shortgame as i don't miss the fairways that often...think my last round was 50% fairways hit, which considering my length, i'm quite happy with!
Actually, no I don't. Or at least I don't think I do!

Bear in mind that the swing in the video was a 3 wood off the deck. Kind of a sweeping swing rather than attacking the back of the ball like I would do a short iron.

Next time I'm at the range I'll get someone to record a 7 iron or something.

I'm due a lesson in a week or so, he'll let me know!

Ah, didn't really think about that, that will make a difference! Get a 7 or 8 iron swing posted when you can!

Where do you lose most of your shots when you play? I.E. do you make double or bogeys because you've hit a wayward tee-shot and don't recover well? Or is it more along the lines of shoving it just off the green, chipping and two/three putting?
Generally speaking, a bad hole for me is normally from a poor tee shot.

Obviously I have the odd 3 putt, duffed chip shot or st approach. But I would say 8 times out of 10 if I blob a hole it'll be from the tee shot.

However, this has definitely improved over the last 8 weeks.

Just 9 holes this morning, rain turned to wet sleety snow so enough was enough!

Not a bad 9 holes though, missed 4 birdie putts.

That's a cracking looking swing as well! I don't really know what I'm looking at enough to give you any pointers. If anything I suppose you could possibly say that your back swing is a touch long (club goes past the target line at the top of your swing) but that's just being picky! Looks good!

As for your comment the other day, I spoke to my pro and he put me on the video screen.
Long story short, you're right, I have got a bit flat in recent weeks so he's given me a few points to work on!

Thanks for the heads up smile

My swing...taken just before christmas. Still working on a few bits, biggest thing I'm trying to work on is using 'coil' on my backswing to help control distance etc. (playing off 13...aiming for single digits for the summer). There's a bunch of older swings on that channel, feel free to look if you want to laugh at a swing! And see how far I've come since having a few lessons!

Filmed in slow motion but couldn't get it to upload as such!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRrM9VtUZYY

Critique away, don't hold back wink.

Cheers!
Too inside and shallow going back. I would work on keeping the club going straighter back from the start and hinging the club up a bit more vertical.

From your position at the top you may get to narrow at times and aim out to right field and flip the club over.

You strike a good ball though.
Which is exactly what my pro told me on Saturday hehe

If you compare my 3 wood swing with Kentlad's driver swing, it's very very similar.

That's great your enjoying the game and long may it continue!

Most beginners who initially slice the ball want to play the draw, then if you stick the game out long enough the draw can develop into a hook and then you realise that if you controlled the slice into a fade you might be better off.

Once you reach a certain point in your ball striking ability you need to able to work the ball both ways to truly become proficient in shot making.

I would like to see a face on view but having looked at the video again you tee the ball to low. Tee it higher and hit up on the ball with the driver, some axis tilt would also help you do this.
Nail on the head! This was me probably 2 years ago! I've had a nice enough draw going for most of the last year but I'm now having issues with the pull hook, especially with 3 wood and driver from the tee.

I was given a quick impromptu lesson by the pro at my local range on Sunday, he got me to set my wrists early (like the Faldo/leadbetter drill) and then go ahead and swing, absolutely amazing results - haven't struck an iron that well for quite some time!
Yep, that's a great drill. Doesn't help your takeaway though so make sure you work on that part also!
